Dominique Parrish's insight:

Robots replacing people ... this virtual patient allows nursing students to practice competencies that they need in their professional practice. A large number of nursing competencies are learnt through trial and error but the availability of patients to practice on is not commensurate with the demand. Virtual patient is a very sound solution to the issue of nursing students not having enough clinical practice and skills development opportunties.

Virtual Tours of Archaeological Sites

Dominique Parrish's insight:

The potential of virtual tours of archaeological sites enhancing learning experiences is significant. Students can view countless sites without leaving the classroom. I could see this being used by teachers in numerous ways. The teacher could use the archeological sites as a way of introducing and explaining about key information. Students could be given a selection of sites and asked to identify, describe and explain certain features of the sites. This resource provides a modification to learning that would enhance students' understanding and appreciation of archeological content.

SAMR made easy.

Marina Cousins's curator insight, April 10, 2014 9:26 PM

I have discovered the whole series of U-tube video's on the SAMR model.  I have used scoop.it on the redefinition video as this is what we want to implement within the workplace and our classrooms.

I am a visual learner so I find using this type of technology most useful to aide my learning process.

The objective in this learning process was to learn about the SAMR model and implement it into my teaching setting.

The ways I can redefined my teaching is by using powerpoint, video demonstrations or u-tube presentations (eg non-invasive ventilation techniques), adding digital photos for example of a real-life patient cardiac monitor observations for critical analysis or by undertaking mind-maps so the learner demonstrates the cause and effect of their actions to clearly show their understanding of machine settings.

As a clinical facilitator, I can assess an employee's clinical skills by implementing the above technology (modification) to enable the person to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in a creative way and provide critical analysis of their actions and thereby redefining the assessment process.

Second Life | iNET Nurse | Technologies to transform learning | Scoop.it
Dominique Parrish's insight:

Second life provides a means of enabling students the opportunity to engage in activities that they otherwise would not be able to. In a nursing context I could see the potential for virtual worlds to be used to give students an opportuntiy to interact in simulated scenarios that are based on actual encounters they might have in a real world nursing situation. The virtual scenario would allow students to contemplate how they might appropriately respond without the pressure of time and circumstance. Groups of students could discuss alternative responses and the value of these responses and then construct a best practice response that is enacted in second life.

This article highlights what has been happening within the organisations of information overload.  Again, the facilitator has to go back and clearly understand what you want the learners to know.

Far too much time  is wasted on mandatory training and often employees will skip the revision and just do the quiz at the end of the session so we can tick the box of completion.
