10 Tips To Build A Responsive Website [Infographic]

10 Tips To Build A Responsive Website [Infographic] | Technologies for Teaching, Learning & Collaborating | Scoop.it

Want your website to look great on smartphones, tablets, PCs and even TVs? Learn how to go fully responsive.

The Web and the mobile browsers remain one of the top ways that users interact with websites and if they have trouble on their smartphone, there is a good chance they are not coming back.

That’s where responsive design can help.

Responsive design is a concept where you build your website once and then format it so it can adapt to any screen size that accesses it. Designers use HTML5 and CSS to build the sites and set parameters so the content will resize itself whether the user is in vertical or horizontal viewing mode, on a tablet, desktop or smartphone or even a screen as large as a television...

Broadcast Your PowerPoint To All The Devices In The Room with Electric Slide

Broadcast Your PowerPoint To All The Devices In The Room with Electric Slide | Technologies for Teaching, Learning & Collaborating | Scoop.it

Electric Slide is the easiest way to wirelessly present PowerPoint slides, Office documents, PDFs and videos with your iPhone or iPad.

Your device is a remote control that works anywhere with any screen. Since viewers just need your simple URL to follow along, setup is a cinch.

You can also connect your device directly to a TV or projector via HDMI or VGA.

Cori Zuppo's insight:

Absolutely cool. Now, how to make it work in a classroom with a diverse student population who perhaps cannot afford iThings...and the classroom PCs are not wireless...hmmm...

I agree Jacq! For some, the pricing won't be an issue. For sole proprietors, it could be something to carefully consider.

18 Websites that Take Scrolling to the Next Level | Inspiration #websitedesign | Technologies for Teaching, Learning & Collaborating | Scoop.it
There was a time when the common practice was to try and place all content above the fold. But now, instead of fearing the scroll, web designers and developers

Via Brian Yanish - MarketingHits.com
Cori Zuppo's insight:

The art of the scroll reflects design practices that capitalize upon human-computer interaction opportunities. Infinitely scolling, without purpose, is annoying. The websites highlighted in the article leverage purpose with function to achieve the desired outcome: read this!

The bottom line of any successful digital design mentality is to draw visitors in and make them want to stay until the message has been received.

Presenting... the Digital Public Library of America!

Presenting... the Digital Public Library of America! | Technologies for Teaching, Learning & Collaborating | Scoop.it

"Two-and-a-half years ago, at a meeting in Cambridge, leaders of 42 of America's top libraries and research institutions decided that the time had come to buildsomething together. But what was that thing?" And "that thing" is now launched... the Digital Public Libary of America!

Via Beth Dichter

Beth Dichter's curator insight, April 19, 2013 9:15 PM

The library director answers three questions about this new venture:

* What is the Digital Public Library of America? What do you hope it will become?

* Can you give us examples of collections or items that are part of the DPLA that people can look forward to exploring?

* Can you talk about how the Digital Public Library of America fits in with the role of libraries going forward in the 21st century?

Think about it. Forty-two institutions have come together to share their materials online. The library will have exhibits and allow you to search by location, time and keyword. You can create an account and save your searches (and they may be public or private). This is a new resource that will allow you and your students to find primary documents and artifacts that otherwise would not be available to them. Take the time to check it out. The site is located at http://dp.la.

Cori Zuppo's insight:

I was pleased to run across this article as I find digital resources, even when licensed under CC, to be a little risky. If at all possible, I try to use photos that are either my own or CC photos that come from sources such as the Smithsonian. There are no guarantees, but there are safer options.
