Best practice in designing an adaptable and extendable online course

The best practice in designing and developing a fully online course involves the considerations of adaptivity and extendability. This statistics course is designed with a well-organized structure so instructors will be able to flexibly adjust or extend content materials for different credit requirements without re-designing the course in the future. The adaptive learning environment also highlights student-centered navigation and student-control process. Students who may have various levels of statistics knowledge and experience can adjust their study on their paces. The design also...

I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, but I was finally pushed into action by a post I read this morning on Hugh Rundle’s blog. What did I do? I dropped the “NC”—the non-commercial use stipulation—on the Creative Commons license I’ve been using on my blog.

Just had a chance to visit with the author and review some of his book. This is an excellent resource for any educator concerned about reaching ALL students!

I really believe that what this book addresses is a 'modern digital literacy'. Even those not who are not impaired should be familiar with this!

Jim Harmon's curator insight, February 5, 3:13 PM

Lots of many great features inherent in the iOS to accommodate the needs of diverse learners.

Joyce Valenza's curator insight, March 27, 5:57 AM

Are we using the right metrics to evaluate the success of MOOCs?

"Stephen Downes hits the nail on the head in a new post about this issue, Like reading a newspaper. If we compare a regular course to a book which must be read from cover to cover then a MOOC is more like a newspaper that you read very selectively. . . Downes suggests that the connectivist MOOCs he's associated with offer learners a range of learning paths and a flexibility in approach that is unlike a regular course."
