How Google Has Changed Student Research - Edudemic | Diigo

Bronwyn Desjardins's insight:

We should encourage our students to use alternatives to Google. There is growing concern about how Google controls/filters what we see in such a way that it removes incidental learning.

Aurasma: Augmented Reality for Your Classroom | Edudemic | TechLib | Scoop.it

"After weeks of comparing reviews and conducting trials in my classroom, I can say unreservedly that Aurasma offers the best augmented reality (AR) experience for classrooms of any iOS or Android app. The Aurasma app is more versatile and classroom-friendly than any AR app; it enables teachers to bring curriculum to life, turning almost any environment into a classroom or object into a lesson. Read on to find out why no app does augmented reality like Aurasma.'

How to dictate a book in Book Creator - Book Creator app | Blog

How to dictate a book in Book Creator - Book Creator app | Blog | TechLib | Scoop.it
When working with young students, typing can be quite a difficult thing for them to do.

In Book Creator, you can easily make a voice recording of the child telling the story but often having the written text there can make that story even more powerful.

Just recently, I was training some assistant teachers on how to use Book Creator. I run a lot of workshops, and Book Creator is one of my most used apps on my iPad.

I love it when I learn something new. So I just had to share this with you.

Privacy is Dead. Google and Facebook know everything about YOU!

Privacy is Dead. Google and Facebook know everything about YOU! | TechLib | Scoop.it
Privacy is not about data - it's about people. Privacy is not about secrecy, it is not about hiding information and is not a technology problem - Privacy is a social problem. Privacy is concerned with the proper handling of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and respecting the dignity of the individual to whom the information refers. Think you have any privacy when it comes to a social networking site? Think again. Just take a look at who has invested in the site and open your eyes.
Bronwyn Desjardins's insight:

At ISTE 2014 I shared my concerns about privacy on Google. While I think Google can do a lot for education, the amount of data it has access to and control it has concerns me as a teacher and protector of my students' privacy.

Expert-level Google tips for busy students - Daily Genius

Expert-level Google tips for busy students - Daily Genius | TechLib | Scoop.it

"Being a student right now is difficult. There’s that nagging feeling that you could always ‘just Google it’ and know the answer to something. It’s an urge many students must fight on a day-to-day basis if they want to actually get some reliable answers. Sure, you could punch in a simple question or keyword and get millions of results.

But what happens when you need to do a ‘Google A Day’ style level of research? An instance where you need to dive into dozens of actual books or figure out how to sort the good resources from the less-than-reliable sources?

That’s where figuring out some of the best Google tips comes in handy."

Blogging in a Primary Classroom–With Only One iPad! - Primary Preoccupation @kathycassidy

Blogging in a Primary Classroom–With Only One iPad! - Primary Preoccupation @kathycassidy | TechLib | Scoop.it
Many primary teachers who only have access to one iPad in their classroom assume that there is very little they can do to make that iPad useful for an entire class.  A few weeks ago, I blogged about the way I would do the “listen to reading” option of the Daily Five in a one iPad classroom. Today, I want to share some options for blogging with only one iPad.
