Sofia Sweeney's curator insight, November 24, 2015 6:39 PM

I have not used QR codes in my classes, but they do look interesting if you can find a meaningful way to use them.  This article gives step-by-step instructions on how to download the program onto mobile devices and gives 10 ideas of how to use them in classes.  If anyone tries to do this, please let me know how it goes.

I have always wanted to use QR codes in the classroom, but aside from borrowed materials, I was unsure of how to begin. This resource, "10 ways to Use QR Codes in the Classroom" gives step-by-step directions for getting started, as well as links, and ideas for when to use QR codes to engage students.

The e-textbook transformation

The e-textbook transformation | TechInELC | Scoop.it

A new wave of e-textbooks is giving students more than just words and a few hotlinks on a digital page. Publishers over the last few years have been adding video, interactive maps and gamified quizzes designed to engage students more deeply in their learning.

A transformation which is not a revolution. It will take time and effort.  It's important we give it the space to take its natural course.

Angela C. Dowd's curator insight, July 25, 2014 2:11 PM

Thank you Nik. I like reading about innovations like e-textbook transformation that make learning more accessible to all students.

Raj Shekhar Mishra's curator insight, March 20, 2015 3:07 AM

To engage students more deeply in their learning publishers are making the textbook a hands-on activity by adding video, interactive maps and gamified quizzes.  The goal is not simply to replace traditional textbooks with e-books but to fundamentally change teaching and learning .The best learning strategy is the multi-modal approach—you can hear it, you can see it, you can manipulate and interact with the content.

Blended Learning Implementation Guide

Blended learning means rethinking how class is structured, how time is used, and how limited resources are allocated. Compared to high-access environments, which simply provide devices for every student, blended learning includes an intentional shift to online instructional delivery for a portion of the day in order to boost learning and productivity. Productivity in this sense includes improvements to teacher access of data and its potential to inform instruction. Greater student productivity includes less time wasted on skills already mastered. Increased learning opportunities and improved student outcomes enhance overall system productivity.

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, September 25, 2013 12:24 PM

We should have thought about restructing classrooms and the relationship we have with learning as teachers and learners.

robyns tut's curator insight, September 27, 2013 6:01 PM

The integration of technology and teaching is completely a good idea in my opinion. Especially given that we are living in a digital age, where learners have access to a lot of technical devices, which aim at improving and making life efficient. Thus by building curricula that welcomes the use of technology inside the classroom, will change the face of education - hopefully for the better. However my concern is the introduction of a 'customised' form of learning. Education is supposed to be unified experience where learners access information at the same time and at the same pace. It seems unfair that because there wil be fast learners in a class, that means they have to get to the end of the syllabus quicker than others. Everyone should receive attention in a similar manner, whether they understand the work or not. Teaching should not favour one person over the other.
