Giving our students a sense of purpose by helping them contribute to the learning community can be one of the most powerful and effective ways to improve achievement for all students. Educators often underestimate the capacity of our students to lead and contribute to their learning communities. Participants in this session will take away a framework and toolset for integrating into any learning environment.

As ownership for learning is turned over to students, the shift that takes place in the classroom will require a great deal of support from administrators. For example, in order for teachers to take new risks, they will need encouragement to try new classroom design ideas and teaching techniques. New professional development models and a robust infrastructure will be needed to support this work. Finally, it will be important for administrators to have a way to assess the impact of these changes. Participants in this session will take away multiple techniques to help them lead a shift of culture in their schools and districts.
