Atoms For Peace // AMOK | tech love | Scoop.it

Amok, the debut album from Atoms For Peace (Thom Yorke, Flea, Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker and Mauro Refosco) streaming in full from the website a week before its store release on 25 February 2013.

The site displays and manipulates a stream of websites involved in the conversation and fans are invited to feed the stream by adding links to the visualiser.

SpaceX Grasshopper rocket

SpaceX Grasshopper rocket | tech love | Scoop.it

SpaceX's prototype Grasshopper rocket took one giant leap last week, rising to a 12-story height and settling back down safely on its landing legs at the company's Texas rocket test facility.

silkblade's insight:

Straight to the funny part:

Very impressive. Why could NASA not achieve such a fact.

Jonathan F
Because our government over complicates most things. Such as the millions spent to come up with a writing device that could be used in space, under water, upside down, in hot and freezing conditions while the Russians just took a pencil.

Elon Musk's Wild Idea for a 'Jetson Tunnel' from S.F. to L.A.

Elon Musk's Wild Idea for a 'Jetson Tunnel' from S.F. to L.A. | tech love | Scoop.it

Trains are slow. Planes are unwieldy. Cars are, er, pedestrian. What if there were another way -- a better way -- for people to travel over long distances?

Elon Musk, of PayPal, Tesla and SpaceX fame, thinks he has that way. And it is a notional vehicle that can carry people between Los Angeles and San Francisco ... in 30 minutes flat. He calls it "the Hyperloop."

Paper, An iPad App For Ideating And Sharing

Paper, An iPad App For Ideating And Sharing | tech love | Scoop.it

There are many note taking applications which are useful but boring, FiftyThree co-founder Georg Petschnigg tells Co.Design. Then there are paint programs, that require a lot of skill to make something beautiful. Paper is where productivity and beauty come together.

Atmospheric Vortex Engine

Atmospheric Vortex Engine | tech love | Scoop.it

A group of Canadian scientists are working on a power plant that will use a controlled tornado to drive turbines. They're calling it the Atmospheric Vortex Engine (AVE) and it works by pulling hot, humid, low air into itself and creating a vortex.

The finished plant would have a diameter of about 100 meters and would produce 200 megawatts of electrical power - about the same as a traditional coal-fired fossil fuel plant but the AVE wouldn't produce any carbon emissions and wouldn't require a fuel storage facility.

It's estimated that the AVE would cost about 3 cents per kilowatt hour, which would rank it among the cheapest forms of energy.

On the one hand it looks like a potentially useful product. It's sort of a graphical Evernote with linkage but the price $249 and $299 is way out in left field. Evernote is $45. It's a "nice to have" product but not a "must have".

There is a free version too.

Organize anything, together

Organize anything, together | tech love | Scoop.it

Trello is a collaboration tool that lets you organise your projects into boards.

silkblade's insight:

I've been using Trello for organising projects with clients and for my own work. It's lightweight, easy and fun.

I even used a Trello board recently to card sort a large website with a client on the other side of the world. I started it off with a first draft and we worked out the second draft in real time together. A few easy updates later, the site architecture was clear.
