Big changes coming to future workplace

Our workplaces still seem more suited to the industrial age than the digital age. But that will change.

Bold leaders will act sooner. Maitland says it takes bold leadership to break from old habits. “I think leaders have no option, the wave of change is inevitable. It’s about being strategic and staying competitive.”

What it Means Today to be 'Connected'

What it Means Today to be 'Connected' | Tech Enabled Leadership | Scoop.it

Connecting with people and innovative ideas is more important than ever. To my mind, in a world where new and interesting ideas can come from anywhere, true value is found by breaking through the silos of sector-only or country-only knowledge and relationships. In such a world, it is not about the number of people you know or the mountain of business cards you collect, but rather about the depth and authenticity of the relationships you build and sustain, the depth and maturity of the connection you have with one another, and about valuing and nurturing the free flow of ideas.

Social media find place in classroom - USA Today

Social media find place in classroom - USA Today | Tech Enabled Leadership | Scoop.it
The principal of New Milford (N.J.) High School has nearly 12,300 Twitter followers (his handle: @NMHS_Principal). He and his teachers use Facebook to communicate with students and parents, and students use it to plan events. In class, teachers routinely ask kids to power up their cellphones to respond to classroom polls and quizzes. Rather than ban cellphones, Sheninger calls them "mobile learning devices."
He replaced the school's "static, boring" website with what has become a heavily used Facebook page, and his teachers encourage students to research, write, edit, perform and publish their work online.
Sheninger is one of a growing number of educators who don't just tolerate social networking in school — he encourages it, often for educational purposes.

Mobile Learning: Are We On the Cusp of Something Big? | MindShift

Mobile Learning: Are We On the Cusp of Something Big? | MindShift | Tech Enabled Leadership | Scoop.it
When most of us consider education, we think of learning happening in isolated places — schools. But mobile devices are upending that assumption. With innovations like augmented reality, different kinds of information and experiences can be superimposed onto the real world, complementing and adding another dimension to “formal” learning institutions.

Ken Robinson On The Principles Of Creative Leadership | Fast Company

Ken Robinson On The Principles Of Creative Leadership | Fast Company | Tech Enabled Leadership | Scoop.it
Ken Robinson On The Principles Of Creative Leadership: John Chambers, chairman and CEO at Cicso, describes how he's gone from leading from the front to leading from the middle of the organization in my book Out of Our Minds. Cisco has a much more distributed and active management and leadership so that it can be more responsive; it's more cellular.

People in different tiers of the organization are given much more discretion and freedom to take initiatives. There's much more collaboration and communication between them. Rather than the typical form of management--command and control--people at Cisco are coming to him with proposals and getting a proper hearing rather than it all coming from the top down. If you want innovation and creativity, you have to tap into people's senses and their perceptions and ideas and energies and passions.

The Impact of Technology on Leadership

The Impact of Technology on Leadership | Tech Enabled Leadership | Scoop.it

With the new millennium came the development of the read-write web or Web 2.0 resources like social media. It was the use of social media with its emphasis on active participation, connectivity, and collaboration, that finally enabled leaders to easily and efficiently share their knowledge and ideas with an unlimited number of followers. Thus, technology enabled leaders could overcome many of the challenges and constraints of traditional leadership to engage in leadership actions that are more open, collaborative and dynamic.

While I don't question the validity of statements such as these, the over-emphasis on the 'leader' as opposed to 'leadership' discounts the contributions of teacher leaders, informal leaders and educational stakeholders can play in contributing to school leadership.

Bridge in the Middle - School Community Relations | Tech Enabled Leadership | Scoop.it
Social media needs to be included - Although there are still very few schools that have embraced social media in school communication plans, we had some great discussions about how these tools can be used to facilitate effective two way communication. As schools develop their plans for communication in today's environment, it is extremely important that they incorporate social media in their efforts.
