Class Charts - seating plans and behavior management software

Class Charts - seating plans and behavior management software | Tech & Education | Scoop.it

Seating charts are an essential part of any good teacher’s tool kit. They help organise students into appropriate learning groups and minimise behaviour issues – the class teacher asserts their authority before the lesson even begins. We take seating charts a step further. You can optionally include and display key data (eg SEN, reading age) about each pupil which is used to intelligently position pupils in the classroom to maximise learning.

Begoña Iturgaitz's curator insight, January 10, 4:06 AM

As I  expect positive behaviour and engagement from my students,  I find it pretty useless. However,  it may be greatly interesting for keeping records on, for instance,  learning to learn sklills or procedures; for mastering processes.....etc.

Gary Harwell's curator insight, January 12, 12:17 AM

This could be another good tool for Class Administration

My comment:

Hi Jimmie,

Congrats on getting listed in iTunes.
Where can I find your show link? I’d like to give it a listen.

My latest podcast episode was a re-purposed Hangout On Air that I did with Wade Harman, and I’m really pleased with the way it turned out.

I’m using Libsyn for my podcast hosting and I don’t even use the Power Press plugin. Nothing against it, I just wanted to use the most simple method I could find, so I set up a second blog on Blogger and use Libsyn’s “on publish” feature. Works like a charm.

Are Your Students Digitally Literate? 10 Resources : Teacher Reboot Camp | Tech & Education | Scoop.it

Our learners live in a connected world where technology impacts their lives daily. Our students often dedicate many hours to communicating, sharing, and learning online. It’s the main way they learn and they receive a surplus of information. Sadly, few reflect on the value or validity of that information. We need to teach our students to have a critical eye when navigating the web.  Below are a few ideas and resources to help you teach your learners about digital literacy.

f you don’t have a YouTube channel as an education provider, there’s a good chance you’re behind the times. Nearly every major educational institution in the world now hosts its own collection of videos featuring news, lectures, tutorials, and open courseware. Just as many individuals have their own channel, curating their expertise in a series of broadcasted lessons.

These channels allow instructors to share information and blend media in unprecedented and exciting new ways. From teaching Mandarin Chinese to busting myths about Astronomy, the educational possibilities are virtually endless pun intended!

Launching Science Laboratories into the 21st Century: Labster

Launching Science Laboratories into the 21st Century: Labster | Tech & Education | Scoop.it

Labster is an online laboratory simulator that allows students to perform experiments that in real life may be too costly, dangerous or time consuming to do in a school setting. It has been used by teachers to supplement science classes or to replace real-life experiments usually conducted in a physical lab. What makes Labster stand out is its use of game-based learning techniques and real-life scenarios in a virtual laboratory to stimulate student engagement and enhance learning outcomes.

"What critical pedagogy does insist upon is that education cannot be neutral. It is always directive in its attempt to enable students to understand the larger world and their role in it. Moreover, it is inevitably a deliberate attempt to influence how and what knowledge, values, desires and identities are produced within particular sets of class and social relations. For Freire, pedagogy always presupposes some notion of a more equal and just future; and as such, it should always function in part as a provocation that takes students beyond the world they know in order to expand the range of human possibilities and democratic values."

Phraseum - language learning online

Phraseum - language learning online | Tech & Education | Scoop.it

The Web offers huge opportunities to improve any foreign language you’re learning, from news stories, blog posts, comments and all that content. So, find sites with your favourite topics and read them regularly. Phraseum will help you save and organize all useful sentences you come across while reading, in order to learn them later.
You can organize your clips by tags (situation, meaning …) and personal categories (your projects, meetings …)
You can also search for and re-save phrases that others have saved
or discover phrases that match the topics of your interests in your Phrase feed.

A clipper tool that looks to have great potential for learners to use the web systematically for vocabulary expansion

carldowse's curator insight, January 18, 2:18 AM

Vocabulary builing tool with a web clipper that can be added to a browser for quick additions to a tagged phrasebook - looks like a very interesting use of browser technology that promotes learner autonomy

Amadeu Marin's curator insight, June 7, 5:23 AM

Excellent idea! A fantastic tool to build up a collection of useful chunks or phrases around topics, situations, etc.

LEARNING TIP:

Phraseum provides what they call a 'clipping button' that you

drag onto your browser bookmark bar. Then, while you're reading online, you can highlight a piece of text (collocations, chunks, idioms, etc.) you want to clip, then hit the Phraseum clipping button to save and categorize the phrase into your account to learn or use later.

You can also share the phrases and phrasebooks you create and subscribe to other people's.
