IT's curator insight, December 16, 2013 10:22 AM

Lavabit founder battles Feds over SSL keys to protect Americans' email privacy
Skip Stein's insight:

The Feds are just out of control, lying and obfuscating the fact of their constant desire for TOTAL CONTROL.  Fight back when and where you can. It is YOUR FREEDOM and LIBERTY at stake.  These idiots seldom if ever actually find any 'terrorists' and the work involved in reading all our email and listening to all our conversations and other messages is costing YOU TRILLION$.  Where is the ROI, where are the results?  Oh yea, it's all secret from the 'open government' that idiot Obama had promised!

Artificial Intelligence and What Computers Still Don't Understand

Artificial Intelligence and What Computers Still Don't Understand | Tech and the Future of Integration | Scoop.it
The computers that tend to do well in Turing Tests are ones that lie. Hector Levesque wants to reimagine the field of artificial intelligence and change that.
Skip Stein's insight:

This is so on the money!  Doing an internet search and getting a reasonable response is like hitting the lottery; one in a million changes of success.  Then there are all those 'neat shit' AI applications for 'smart phones' that sound cool but really are more trouble than they are worth.  They either are obnoxious or dysfunctional and don't work in a real world situation.

Same with 'programming', we are still writing simple logic statements when we should be designing intelligent tools.  When Bill Gates bamboozled the world with his crappy software, it took computer technology programming 10 steps back.  We had started to develop 'English' Language constructs for searching and programming but then we fell back into the pits of close to machine level coding (C, C++ and other variants).  Macro libraries exist but are not re-usable for the most part.  Functions exist but still you have to write byte level code constructs.

We really should be having discussions with code generators for prototyping and testing new systems (testing, anyone remember that?).  But we still stumble around with 'neat shit' applications that really address personal or business needs.

The Hyperloop Is Not as Crazy as It Seems

The Hyperloop Is Not as Crazy as It Seems | Tech and the Future of Integration | Scoop.it
Two years ago I wrote that high-speed rail was dead in America, but that we shouldn’t mourn it too much, because the technology would soon be obsolete anyway. Since then, most states have in fact ditched their high-speed rail plans for good.

This tech if rapidly advancing.  Soon we may be able to custom order just about anything and pick it up at a local fabrication shop the next day.  This IS the future of distributed localized manufacturing!  International/Global shipping and distribution companies should be shaking in their boots as they see their reason for existing rapidly fading as this tech will make their industry unnecessary in the not too distant future!

U.S. infrastructure getting older but not being replaced

Skip Stein's insight:

Businesses and governments are ignoring the vast decay of our USA infrastructure.  Business seeks short term financial goals instead of long term investment in the future.  Governments spend on wasteful programs that do little/nothing to service their constituents.  This article doesn't mention the decaying and obsolete electrical transmission systems that fail with every storm.

We spend BILLION$ spying on Americans instead of investing in the infrastructure that made us THE World Leader.  More concerned with fighting un-winable wars in countries that want to KILL US.  Maybe it's time to refocus on AMERICA and forget the ungrateful idiots who hate us.  Why spend TRILLION$ and get bombed, instead of spending that money building bridges and state of the art technologies to keep America the Leader on the Planet?

Idiot, self serving and corrupt government agencies, overbearing and arrogant politicians (only interested in lining their own pockets) and an enslaved poor sub-culture addicted to food stamps and welfare programs that have done NOTHING over the decades to eliminate the under-class, just promote it for generations.

WAKE UP AMERICA.  YOUR Government is corrupt and out of control!  Time to VOTE in 2014 for a TOTAL turnover in Washington then finish the idiots off in 2016@!  WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
