The Future of the Internet of Things [infographic]

The Future of the Internet of Things [infographic] | tec edu | Scoop.it

Ever wonder why Google is installing extreamly fast gigabit internet infrastructure when the average person needs 200x less speed? It is because of the future of the Internet of Things. In less than 10 years, the internet will not just be for your phone or laptop, everything will be online.

I’m talking about your car, fridge, tv, blender, air conditioner, front door, and even your wallet. This inevitable future is why google is starting today with affordable gigabit internet. This new wave of device overload will open up revenue and advertising streams to a whole new level.

Today’s infographic states that in 2020, every human being on earth will be connected to 10 separate devices.

I know I’m already using five and I bet one of the most prominent technology coming up soon will be wearable tech. If its for exercising, sports, general information or just making phone calls, wearable tech will be an exciting addition today’s digital arsenal.

10 Social Media Skills for The 21st Century Teachers | Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | tec edu | Scoop.it

The potential of social networking sites in education is huge and we need to capitalize on it to enhance our professional development and consequently improve the quality of our instruction. Searching for articles on this topic , I came across Doug Johnson's post on the 10 social media competencies for teachers [http://doug-johnson.squarespace.com/blue-skunk-blog/2010/7/31/top-ten-social-media-competencies-for-teachers.html ]. I like the competencies Doug included and decided to make an infographic featuring all of these skills.  Have a look and share with your colleagues.

Does Losing Handwriting In School Mean Losing Other Skills Too?

Learning to write by hand has learning benefits that could be neglected if too much focus is put on keyboarding.

ChristopherBell's curator insight, June 12, 2014 8:30 PM

This is an ongoing discussion between my English Teacher friend and I.  I think the real question is why are we still teaching keyboarding??

Allan Shaw's curator insight, June 13, 2014 1:21 AM

It is becoming clearer that it is important that we do not lose  handwriting as a skill! Strong positive neural development in a child is far more important than adeptness in using digital technologies. If research continues to support these initial studies many educators will need to reflect and possibly readjust.

Sharla Shults's curator insight, June 16, 2014 2:57 PM

New evidence suggests that the links between handwriting and broader educational development run deep. Children not only learn to read more quickly when they first learn to write by hand, but they also remain better able to generate ideas and retain information. In other words, it’s not just what we write that matters — but how.
