To Get the Most Out of Tablets, Use Smart Curation

To Get the Most Out of Tablets, Use Smart Curation | Technology and Innovation Resources | Scoop.it
How might efforts to curate benefit from the portability and ubiquity of mobile devices? Tools like Evernote and GoodReads allow for easy and valuable curation. But the harder questions are pedagogical and curricular.

What a wonderful concept - curating things we percieve to be beautiful. Howard Gardner is such an amazing thinker!

I also love the term "relevance portfolio" –this is exactly what I think will be a stepping stone towards personalized learning through content curation.

There are a numbers of tablet apps for iOS and other operating systems that can enable sharing, creating, and implementing projects in a mobile learning environment.

Curation is an interesting topic that I had never considered previously. I need to look into this further. Any suggestions would certainly be welcome.

The more I read about this kind of learning, the more I see blended learning as just a stepping stone.

From blended-learning, to personalized learing, to curiosity-fueled learning?

Gail M. Roper's curator insight, October 20, 2013 12:51 PM

“THE BOTTOM LINE IS, IF YOU’RE NOT THE ONE CONTROLLING YOUR LEARNING, YOU’RE NOT GOING TO LEARN AS WELL.”

My mom used to say this, she told me that the main thing that kids needed to learn to do was to teach themselves.  She believed that it was a skill that would last them a lifetime.  This article is compelling.  It even elaborates on removing adult barriers.

The Adventures of Library Girl: #30secondbooktalk Challenge! It's ON! (Like Donkey Kong!) | Technology and Innovation Resources | Scoop.it

"A couple of months ago when Brad Gustafson (principal/lead learner at Greenwood Elementary School in Plymouth Minnesota), asked me if I wanted to help him create a "book talk" play-off podcast, of course I jumped at the chance. Since then, we've been plotting, scheming, designing, collaborating (mostly over Voxer) and collecting video book talks from some of the finest educators on the planet, so that we can bring you (insert drum roll here) ...

This quotation says it all: "Addressing teachers in 2012, Heng Swee Keat, Singapore’s Minister for Education, argued for a radical shift in policy: “The educational paradigm of our parents’ generation, which emphasized the transmission of knowledge, is quickly being overtaken by a very different paradigm. This new concept of educational success focuses on the nurturing of key skills and competencies such as the ability to seek, to curate and to synthesize information; to create and innovate; to work in diverse cross-cultural teams; as well as to appreciate global issues within the local context.”

This has also been shown in other studies. The students manage better text and performance if writing to open Wikipedia instead of school's own wiki.

Content Curation Tools: 21 Criteria To Select And Evaluate Your Ideal One

Content Curation Tools: 21 Criteria To Select And Evaluate Your Ideal One | Technology and Innovation Resources | Scoop.it

Excerpt from article written and curated by Master Curator Robin Good and published on MasterNewMedia:
"Many such curation tools also appear to be very similar to one another, especially if evaluated exclusively from the type of news streams or visual collections that can be produced with them.

The most limiting factor of all, in making an effective selection when it comes to content curation tools is the lack of a proper evaluation framework, identifying the specific requirements and needs that need to be met by the content curation tool to be selected.

I am now publicly sharing this list of selection criteria, complemented by relevant questions to be asked when verifying the availability of these features to help both individuals, small organizations and companies evaluate better, and in a more systematic fashion, their ideal content curation toolset.

Here the features-list, organized into 21 groups. (*I have marked with HS those features relevant only to hosted content curation services.)
1. Import and Export functions
2. Content Organization
3. Clipping Abilities
4. Integrated Search
5. Content Monitoring - News Discovery
6. Filtering
7. Display formats
8. Arrangement
9. Navigation
10.Editing and Formatting
11.Ownership - HS
12.Collaboration - HS
13.Private Collections / Streams - HS
14.Intelligence - Memory
15.Crediting and Attribution
16.Preservation - Archiving
17.Distribution options
18.SEO - HS
19.Reach (for hosted curation platforms) - HS
20.Integrations - API - HS
21.Branding - White Label - Design Customization - HS..."

Each group is analyzed with more informations. Read full, useful and interesting article here:
