Numbered Wallpapers - Learning in Hand | Teaching with Tablets | Scoop.it
A great management tip for school or class sets of iPads, tablets, and
iPods is to number each device. Setting the lock screen wallpaper to an
image with each device's number will make it easy to identify devices.

From Tony Vincent. Learning in Hand TCC 4-1

Podcasting was my first exposure to Tony Vincent (@learninginhand, @tonyvincent or on FB) and his website. He still has the most amazing lesson plan for a podcast about your town.

But as you can see there is a Twitter feed and FaceBook addition. A blog page has instructions on ideas you can use in class. QR code cubes for selecting a reflection topic, ipad uses, instagrams 10 feet long, jigsaw puzzle makers, and on and on…

Moving at the Speed of Creativity | Transfer Video from an Android Phone to an iPad

Moving at the Speed of Creativity | Transfer Video from an Android Phone to an iPad | Teaching with Tablets | Scoop.it

"UPDATE 12 July 2014: Thanks to Kiwi teacher Allanah King (@Allanahk) for sharing the FREE iOS and Android app “Flick” (@get_flick) which supports cross-platform sharing of photos & videos between devices. Transferring to DropBox is another solution suggested by several others which would have been (most likely) faster than the multi-step workaround described in this post."

Interactive Visual Featuring 6 Tasks You Can Easily Do Using iPad ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Interactive Visual Featuring 6 Tasks You Can Easily Do Using iPad ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Teaching with Tablets | Scoop.it

"This is an interactive image (created using Thinglink) that features a bunch of useful iPad apps that you can use to do tasks you would traditionally do using a pen and paper. I really liked the idea of providing alternatives to do things digitally. For instance, instead of taking notes in a notebook or on paper you can use Evernote or any other note taking app to do it on iPad. The good thing about doing things digitally is that you have the added advantage of accessing, editing, and sharing your work across different devices and platforms and also saving it on the cloud to access it anytime anywhere you go.

As is the case with all the interactive Thinglink images I shared here in the past, the app icons shared here are hyperlinked, just hover your mouse over any of them to access it on the iTunes app store.'

Managing iPad Videos in Schools- Visual Guide for Teachers ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Managing iPad Videos in Schools- Visual Guide for Teachers ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Teaching with Tablets | Scoop.it

""Managing iPad YouTube in Schools" is a visual guide created by iPadWells

from iPad4Schools.

In this guide iPadWells walks teachers through the process they use in their school to create, share and teach using videos. YouTube is the principal video hosting used in this guide. That being said, it does not mean that the guide is not relevant for your teaching situation even if YuTube is banned in your school. You can still benefit from the tips and ideas provided by iPadWells on how to create enhanced videos using a wide variety of apps and share them with students who can access them at home."

Getting Ready for Primary Computing in September - July 2014 Blog Post

Getting Ready for Primary Computing in September - July 2014 Blog Post | Teaching with Tablets | Scoop.it

I have spent this academic year as a test bed for the new Computing Curriculum. This has involved reviewing various resources including apps. I have decided, as I often do, in a less is more approach. A few iPad apps, Espresso Coding and Scratch can cover much of objectives of the programming aspect of the new Computing Curriculum.

In terms of apps, I am going to use Kodable https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/kodable-pro/id649572737?mt=8&uo=4&at=11lIT4 as a starting point in Reception. Prior to that I will ask Pre-school teachers to introduce the sequencing activity in Bugs and Buttons https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/bugs-and-buttons/id446031868?mt=8&uo=4&at=11lIT4 to introducing early programming skills. Year 1 will look at Daisy Dino https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/daisy-the-dinosaur/id490514278?mt=8&uo=4&at=11lIT4 as a stepping stone into Hopscotch and Scratch. Year 2 will look at drawing shapes etc in Hopscotch https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/hopscotch-programming-designed/id617098629?mt=8&uo=4&at=11lIT4 before Year 3/4 look at more complicated game creation in Hopscotch. This will lead nicely into Scratch and continued Hopscotch use in Years 5/6.
Hopscotch is the key app with so many possibilities and a real blank canvas for pupils to be creative on.

Espresso Coding www.espressocoding.co.uk is a series of online activities and video tutorials that has been free this past year. The sample activities are quite prescribed but they offer a nice progression.

Finally, Scratch http://scratch.mit.edu/
http://scratch.mit.edu/ has been used well this term by Year 6 who have created games such as multi-player racing. I intend to do even more with it next term as I have planned more time.

I would love to hear what everyone has planned for September in terms of Computing. Enjoy the end of term and the holidays.
