iPads + project based learning = limitless possibilities - Daily Genius

iPads + project based learning = limitless possibilities - Daily Genius | Teaching with Tablets | Scoop.it
Though more than two years into my school’s implementation of project based learning, yesterday, I found myself excited all over again. I was helping a second grade teacher enhance her landforms PBL by using Padlet as part of the KWL process and suddenly realized that this approach to student-centered learning has truly become a part of who we are as a school.

My adventures in combining PBLs and iPads began with a gift of two carts. I had just started taking the PBLU online courses when the head of our independent pre-k through eighth grade school challenged each grade-level team to teach one unit using the PBL approach while finding authentic ways to draw in iPads. As the lower school technology integration person, I immediately went on a quest to find a guinea pig willing to plan and co-teach a PBL unit incorporating iPads. This is the story of that first experience. . .

Using AirDrop in the Classroom

Using AirDrop in the Classroom | Teaching with Tablets | Scoop.it

In the new version of OS X, Yosemite, AirDrop helps you quickly transfer files between your Mac and nearby Mac computers or iOS devices using Wi-Fi. The best part, especially in the school setting, is that your devices do not need to be on the same Wi-Fi network for AirDrop to work as they will create their own directly connected network to allow for file sharing.

REVIEW: The New iPad Air 2: What it Means for Teaching - teachingwithipad.org | Teaching with Tablets | Scoop.it
There was another Apple Keynote today, and the iPad Air 2 was announced. Although it may not have had the same fanfare as the iPhone event a few weeks ago, there are definitely some exciting changes for the iPad. For those of us thinking of getting one, I wanted to share some thoughts as to how the improvements shared today will effect the future of iPads in education.

50 Resources For Teaching With iPads - Te@chThought

50 Resources For Teaching With iPads - Te@chThought | Teaching with Tablets | Scoop.it
So we thought we’d start an ongoing collection–that is, one that is updated to reflect trends and changes–of the best resources for teaching with the iPad.

This will include resources from all of the best sources, from Apple’s own stuff to TeachThought to edutopia to MindShift to DMLCentral to Jackie Gerstein and more. We can update it, or make it a wiki to crowdsource the process, or you can add suggestions in the comments below. Based on the activity of the comments, and the sharing of the post, we’ll decide how to handle it moving forward.

Lots of good articles!

Brian Romero Smith's curator insight, October 15, 2:27 PM

Great resource for a 1:1 iPad classroom/school. However, this is a great model for any 1:1 setup. You truly need to consider the Teacher/Student/Parent paradigm when deciding on applications that enhance the learning environment. Where there is not workflow vision the people will perish.

Green Screen Movie FX Studio - teachingwithipad.org

Green Screen Movie FX Studio - teachingwithipad.org | Teaching with Tablets | Scoop.it
In preparing for a Green Screen Workshop this week, my good friend Matt and I created this presentation profiling the app Green Screen Movie FX Studio, by Epocfield ($2.99, iTunes link). We have been using this app for almost two years now, and have been very happy with what it can achieve. Although the learning curve for this app is steeper than most, the possibilities are limitless. If you take some time to play around and learn how to use this app, you can really have a lot of fun with it. We used it with third to six graders a couple of summers ago, and they were able to do it quite well.
