Mel Wruck's curator insight, June 13, 2013 12:51 AM

The Daisy the Dinosaur app helps very young students learn the basics of computer programming. Kids also will intuitively grasp the basic of objects, sequencing, loops and events by solving the challenges. Helps students learn directions and words such as turn, spin and roll which are all used in mathematics teaching.

iPads in Primary Education: Introducing Game Design as Part of an Integrated Project

iPads in Primary Education: Introducing Game Design as Part of an Integrated Project | Teaching with ICT in the primary classroom | Scoop.it

"The opportunities for learning through the use of digital gaming are diverse and massive. The speed and ease in which basic game development can be achieved using apps such as Sketch Nation can provide a platform for outstanding cross-curricular projects and really make an impact on progress, standards and pupil independence. This blog post describes one project (upper KS2) which could easily be adapted to suit Key Stage 1 or expanded to meet the needs of Key Stage 3 pupils, and to support almost any topic/subject. 1:1 use of iPods enabled maximum pupil engagement but fewer devices could have been used if pupils collaborated in groups."

My Framework for Teaching with iPad Apps

My Framework for Teaching with iPad Apps | Teaching with ICT in the primary classroom | Scoop.it

"Working at Pilgrims Teacher Training, we have developed our framework for ICT courses with Kristina Smith. Last year, I started teaching with an iPad, so I adapted the framework for teaching with iPad apps.

The framework consists of five categories:

1- Searching: Searching for information (It is also necessary to introduce search engines for apps, such as quixey and appcrawlr)

2-Bookmarking: Bookmarking websites to save them online, and to be able to find them later

3- Organizing: Organizing materials online

4- Creating: Creating multimedia materials

5- Sharing: Finally, sharing the materials on social networking sites"

To link with Year 5′s topic of “Kensuke’s Kingdom,” children in class 5B have been making their own iPad game. They used the app “Sketch Nation Studio,” to do this. A easy app for children to use where they can even photograph their own drawings and use them in their games."
