To promote awareness across our workplace about how digital tools can be used to improve productivity and learning, we are untethering our faculty development offerings from a closed-off physical space and infusing them with principles of openness and connected learning. Untethered faculty development immerses instructors in digital, connected learning environments that develops their digital literacy over time.

The good, the bad and the ugly: Technology and 21st Century Learning. | Teaching with CALL | Scoop.it

The problem with universal access to technology is the fact that it provides almost unrestricted access to information. Much of this information is fantastic and can give a real boost to the learning experience. The danger exists where there is mis-information, inaccuracies and worst of all information that might promote prejudice, discrimination, hatred and violence.

Personally I think a problem exists when we focus students on authority rather than giving them the tools to think critically about information.

How to Engage the Students Who Need It Most: Gamification

How to Engage the Students Who Need It Most: Gamification | Teaching with CALL | Scoop.it
That’s the truth about gamification: it will not make your kids smarter or perform better on tests. Gamification is about increasing motivation and engagement. Once you have a kid’s attention, it is still up to the teacher to deliver a solid, meaningful lesson. Gamification is not a magic bullet, nor does every student need it, but the students who benefit the most from a gamified classroom just so happen to be the ones who most need motivation and engagement.

Understanding the Role of Achievements in Game-Based Learning | Blair | International Journal of Serious Games | Teaching with CALL | Scoop.it
The objective of the current research was to examine whether one potentially effective gaming strategy—achievements—has a positive impact on learning in a game-based environment. An achievement in a video game is a reward or recognition earned by players for an in-game accomplishment. This paper describes a series of studies to evaluate the effects of achievement types on learning in a game designed to teach about health resources.

How To Apply Reflective Practice when Teaching Online

How To Apply Reflective Practice when Teaching Online | Teaching with CALL | Scoop.it
With online teaching, the only person to blame is yourself. That is what being objective means in this industry. An objective and reflective practitioner blames only himself or herself.
