In addition to using Lego for maths, I've taken my sons (extensive) Lego collection into History and Society & Culture to have the students (high school) demonstrate their understanding of concepts such as globalisation, communism, nationalism, capitalism. Worked really well and classes sooo happy.

Having been broken up into groups and given a concept each, They created cities or environments demonstrating the concept then talked the rest of the class through.

Seven Web-based Tools for Delivering Flipped Lessons

Seven Web-based Tools for Delivering Flipped Lessons | Teaching Tools Today | Scoop.it

"This fall there will be teachers trying the flipped classroom approach to lessons for the first time. In the right setting the flipped classroom model can work well. My favorite tools for creating flipped lessons include the option to insert questions for students to answer while watching the video instead of waiting until the end to answer a series of questions. I also like tools that provide students with the opportunity to submit questions to their teachers while they are watching videos. These tools offer those options."

Google Apps, I believe are leading the way to student productivity. As teachers, we may see this as another hurdle in learning new technology, but students will grasp the concepts of Drive, Sharing, Collaborating, and etc, much easier than their teachers. I never thought about using the drawing as a whiteboard tool. Will have to give it a shot. Our district currently doesn't support hangouts, but with iPads we can probably use facetime in much the same way as described.

The persistence of social media is certainly changing how things are done. In a matter of minutes, you can wish an old friend happy birthday on Facebook, find a recipe for dinner on Pinterest, watch a how-to project on YouTube, and get up to the minute updates on events from Twitter. But social media isn’t just changing how we act; it’s actually changing our brains as well.
