Australian Curriculum: History resources | Asia Education Foundation

Australian Curriculum: History resources | Asia Education Foundation | Teaching the Australian Curriculum | Scoop.it

This sample map across year levels shows explicit reference to Asia content in the Australian Curriculum for History. Students learn about the importance of the traditions, beliefs and celebrations of peoples from the Asia region and through the study of ancient societies, trade, conflicts, progressive movements and migration to Australia by people from Asia. From Asia and Australia's engagement with Asia in the Australian Curriculum: History.

Nell C Rundle's insight:

A great set of curated resources for teachers of History in both Primary and Secondary Schools.

Well organised, clear, and ready for use.

Learning and teaching with digital technologies is a mindset

Learning and teaching with digital technologies is a mindset | Teaching the Australian Curriculum | Scoop.it

A month or so ago, I was asked to give a lecture on learning technologies to Year 4 BEd students who are getting ready to do their last placement.

I sensed that for many, connecting social and professional, daily and teaching practice was a hard thing to imagine, let alone do. And this has to do as much with preparedness as it has to do with entitlement to question established practices.

Nell C Rundle's insight:

In this post, Cristina Costa suggests that the use of digital technologies in the classroom has "teachers as context facilitators and learners as content creators".  I am inclined to think that this is a little restricted in its thinking - shouldn't the use of digital technologies in the classroom enable students to create context as well, and empower teachers to be content creators, and more for both?

EducationSurvey 2013: Your comments - pay, the new curriculum

EducationSurvey 2013: Your comments - pay, the new curriculum | Teaching the Australian Curriculum | Scoop.it

“I think teachers who don’t pull their weight at school are more easily identified and should have their pay reduced.”

"I feel that older teachers are treated poorly, being edged out of employment and subject to discrimination.”

Nell C Rundle's insight:

An interesting wrap-up of a range of views.  Variety of opinions is what one would expect when asking any group of teachers a question.

Teacher trains 'digital citizens' with Twitter-based discussions

Teacher trains 'digital citizens' with Twitter-based discussions | Teaching the Australian Curriculum | Scoop.it
Students at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy tweet their class discussions about literature.
Nell C Rundle's insight:

This is just one example of the integration of digital technology within a 'traditional' classroom lesson.  A way of providing a voice for students who may not feel comfortable 'speaking up' in class. An opportunity to have a record of a classroom discussion - and for the conversation to be continued outside of class.

Not for every teacher in every classroom or every lesson, but an idea worth consideration, keeping in mind that twitter is not the only tool that would facilitate such an activity.

Taking on the digital technologies challenge

Taking on the digital technologies challenge | Teaching the Australian Curriculum | Scoop.it
Nell C Rundle's insight:

Looking forward to seeing what this course offers - the new digital technologies curriculum looks good, but a large number of teachers will require additional training and support in order to implement it.

Hopefully this course will help address this need.
