Interview with Nik Peachey: Publishing, eLearning Trends and Technology

Interview with Nik Peachey: Publishing, eLearning Trends and Technology | Teaching quality in Higher Education | Scoop.it

What I really like about e-publishing and in particular blogging, is the immediacy of the process. You can have an idea today and publish it today and by tomorrow you can start reading peoples responses to that idea. For me that’s really fantastic and I get a real buzz from it and learn so much from doing it. Often the responses and the interaction I get as a result of that cause me to modify and rethink my ideas and beliefs, so I continue to learn from what I do.

Lectures Aren't Just Boring, They're Ineffective, Too, Study Finds | Teaching quality in Higher Education | Scoop.it

Are your lectures droning on? Change it up every 10 minutes with more active teaching techniques and more students will succeed, researchers say. A new study finds that undergraduate students in classes with traditional stand-and-deliver lectures are 1.5 times more likely to fail than students in classes that use more stimulating, so-called active learning methods.

Small study relating to students taking control over their own learning. Critics of this paper have pointed to the need to provide a huge amount of support and whilst more mature/PG cohorts may be able to utilise this method without much issue, it can be much more of a challenge for UG students.
