Sometimes the process of learning something in order to be able to do it seems daunting. You know you want to get from point A to point B so that you can do C, but you really just want to be able to do C without a long wait.

There is something interesting about the place of risk in the learning process.  For me the author here takes a rather rosy view, but we often think of the University as a safe place for discussing our ideas, but sometimes a more precarious situation may provide an impetus.
