10 Specific Examples Of Emerging Educational Technologies
Carmenne K. Thapliyal's insight:

Not just an infographic. A superb article that looks at 10 'emerging' educational technologies. Cloud computing, mobile learning and tablet computing top the list, of course.

What's worth a mention is the fact that though this article illustrates with a few (shall I say rare) cases the way in which technology is being used, this is certainly not the same everywhere. Schools and colleges even in a country like France still lack the technological know-how. Teachers are not always well-equipped, neither with the actual, physical piece of technology, nor with the knowledge that goes into its working. Let's not even get started about education in India, shall we?

An interesting article, nonetheless.

Heather Kelly:  "The closing of an online virtual game may sound trivial to anyone who has never used or visited one, but to the people who spent a chunk of their formative years forging relationships inside their virtual walls, the loss can be huge."

Amber Judge's curator insight, September 2, 2013 11:08 AM

Another ethical issue here: If you provide an alternate world in which someone can build their identity, make friends they otherwise wouldn't in the real world and they've spent money on virtual items and then take it all away because the world collapses... What's the ethical actions a company should take to ensure the health and well-being of those people? I mean surely there must be some liability?

The Impact Of Technology On Curiosity

The Impact Of Technology On Curiosity | Tech in teaching | Scoop.it

Gamification, notifications, content titles, click-throughs, likes, suggested videos, and other modern realities seek to, perhaps unwittingly, replace curiosity with artificial pathways that don’t just challenge a student to “stay on task,” but can seemingly discredit traditional research–and the work behind it–and study as stodgy, staid, or irrelevant.

Andrew Aker's curator insight, September 5, 2013 5:53 AM

awesome teaching and learning tool!

Melanie Faizer's curator insight, March 10, 9:57 PM

Zeega.com is a great example of storytelling through aggregating and curating, and in addition, embedded, automated attribution. It removes much of the burden of copyright. From a storytelling perspective, it has limitless possibilities, but one of the challenges is finding that story worth telling. Some Zeega examples are beautifully executed; too many are (from a journalistic perspective) one-dimensional in their execution and not thought-provoking. We are still new at curating content, and it shows. Curating is another form of narrating: the story still needs a point, a trajectory.
