Tech Tools for Teachers

Tech Tools for Teachers | Tech in teaching | Scoop.it

Some of you may be working in a technology-rich environment where you have interactive whiteboards and students have access to the internet in the classroom, or a computer lab that you can take students to. Some of you may only have a single computer in your classroom or, perhaps, like the majority of schools around the world, you may have no computer access in school at all. Whichever is the case, this series will still have something to offer you and will enable you to offer something more to your students, either in class or through the development of more motivating homework tasks that students can access outside of school.

It provides many explanations surrounding many available digital technologies for the classroom which is titled 'Tech Tools for Teachers' and would allow educators to effectively implement digital technologies into their planning.

"1) Connect with international classrooms

2) Learn a musical instrument

3) Professional development

4) Meet with librarians

5) Guest lecturers

6) Practice interviews

7) Have mystery call!

8) Meet exchange students

9) Give students background tasks while Skyping

10) Parent teacher conferences"

...and may I add from own experience: allow a student, who has to stay at home with a broken leg, to follow or catch up on class.

Great idea, holds a lot of promise for moving towards equity in education -- acquisition and achievement. Might also be a good way to improve the waning educational gains of boys, as traditional classroom instruction has often decreased gains.
Jackie Modeste's curator insight, March 12, 2013 1:59 PM

I'm a big fan of applied knowledge. This article on game-based learning holds great promise for achieving educational equity, developing self-guided learners (esp given growth of MOOCs), and improving cognitive ability.

The Dos and Don’ts of Teaching Digital Literacy

The Dos and Don’ts of Teaching Digital Literacy | Tech in teaching | Scoop.it
Is there a right and a wrong way to teach social media in schools? Some administrators think so. Many schools across the country have banned the use...

“The fact is, social media isn’t technology in the lives of our kids, but an essential aspect of their world. Social media isn’t ‘new’ anymore,” said teacher and education consultant Dan Haesler on his blog. “We can’t continue pretending that it is, and using this as an excuse for not addressing it.

===> And by addressing it I do not mean banning it!” <===
