Tech Tools for Teachers

Tech Tools for Teachers | Tech in teaching | Scoop.it

Some of you may be working in a technology-rich environment where you have interactive whiteboards and students have access to the internet in the classroom, or a computer lab that you can take students to. Some of you may only have a single computer in your classroom or, perhaps, like the majority of schools around the world, you may have no computer access in school at all. Whichever is the case, this series will still have something to offer you and will enable you to offer something more to your students, either in class or through the development of more motivating homework tasks that students can access outside of school.

Great idea, holds a lot of promise for moving towards equity in education -- acquisition and achievement. Might also be a good way to improve the waning educational gains of boys, as traditional classroom instruction has often decreased gains.

I'm a big fan of applied knowledge. This article on game-based learning holds great promise for achieving educational equity, developing self-guided learners (esp given growth of MOOCs), and improving cognitive ability.

Collaborative Teacher Efficacy vs Individual Efforts... | Teacher Learning Networks | Tech in teaching | Scoop.it

Listening to teachers talk about teaching in a collaborative learning space – three teachers and up to 90 students as opposed to one teacher and 30 students - and one is struck by how much ‘we’ there is in the teacher voice. There is a firm belief that as a team, they are able to shift student outcomes, raise achievement, and meet the needs of a diverse range of learners. Teachers often cite examples of the advantage of working and teaching together:

The Dos and Don’ts of Teaching Digital Literacy

The Dos and Don’ts of Teaching Digital Literacy | Tech in teaching | Scoop.it
Is there a right and a wrong way to teach social media in schools? Some administrators think so. Many schools across the country have banned the use...

“The fact is, social media isn’t technology in the lives of our kids, but an essential aspect of their world. Social media isn’t ‘new’ anymore,” said teacher and education consultant Dan Haesler on his blog. “We can’t continue pretending that it is, and using this as an excuse for not addressing it.

===> And by addressing it I do not mean banning it!” <===
