Imagine receiving academic credit for contributing well-received resources into open source repositories, whether as software, art, photography, or educational resources. Imagine receiving credit for long-lasting additions to Wikipedia or similar online resources (we would have to fix Wikipedia, as it is now run by a gang of thugs known as 'Wikipedia editors')

A more effective social approach, however, is where the content is well-integrated within the community, and in fact co-created by the community, and where the emphasis is placed much more on the interactions, knowledge sharing and conversations of the participants – than on the content per se.

Cassette to iPod Converter will digitize your tapes | TUAW

Cassette to iPod Converter will digitize your tapes | TUAW | Teaching & learning in the creative industries | Scoop.it

By Kelly Hodgins

"If you have a box of cassette tapes left over from your Walkman days, then you might want to pay a visit to Hammacher Schlemmer. The online retailer is selling a cassette to iPod converter that could help you finally clear those aging tapes from your shelves."

This photo is just too much fun. It would make a great writing prompt for kids. Ask them to describe what this device is for and what might have happened just before and just after the picture was taken. what kind of people would pay $80 for this thing? (I remember the first Sony cassette recorder/player I bought. It weighed about 4.5 lbs and cost $110 in 1971.)

Now, if this thing worked two ways, and captured information from the phone and recorded it on the tape, that would be worth 80 bucks, right?

While it may be true that there are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going, there certainly are ways of needlessly prolonging the journey. We often waste lots of time because nobody ever taught us the most effective and efficient way to practice.
