How Metacognition Makes Students Better Learners

How Metacognition Makes Students Better Learners | Teaching - learning | Scoop.it
When students learn to reflect meaningfully about their learning, they can participate in a dialogue with the teacher that allows them to work together to determine the actual level of mastery. No longer working in isolation, the teacher can now adequately discuss depth of learning, thereby helping students to communicate particular knowledge that is too often absent from their final products. After students provide the teacher with thorough information about their process, the teacher is in a better position to assess student learning.

Using Gaming Principles to Engage Students

Using Gaming Principles to Engage Students | Teaching - learning | Scoop.it

Gamification is not about punishments and rewards, which are external factors that will undoubtably lead to extrinsic motivation. It’s about occupying that safe space in which failure and success are necessary and natural parts of the journey, and learning to take neither one so personally.

As each tool we should experiment within the classroom, it is possible to find pros and cons froms its results. This is hat is happening, exactly, with Gamification case. Although some people do not consider Gamification as the mainstream of education, some others argue this new wave of learning through games will be useful if teachers know how to manage it and use this kind of tools in a right approach.

Action Research: The Ultimate Problem-Solving Strategy for Educators - InformED

Action Research: The Ultimate Problem-Solving Strategy for Educators - InformED | Teaching - learning | Scoop.it

According to Sagor, action research can be adopted by an individual teacher, a collaborative group of colleagues sharing a common concern, or an institution’s entire faculty. These three different approaches to organising for research serve three compatible, yet distinct, purposes: creating reflective teachers; building professional cultures; and making progress on institutional priorities.

Baby, It’s Cold Outside! Let’s Explore Some Cold Phrases and Idioms | English with a Twist

Baby, It’s Cold Outside! Let’s Explore Some Cold Phrases and Idioms | English with a Twist | Teaching - learning | Scoop.it
Photo: Pixabay Brrrrr, it's cold out there. As I write this post, I am sitting in my warm and cosy office looking out at the grey skies and imagining what the bitterly cold wind that's blowing through the trees feels like. David, my husband has just come in from walking Buster, our dog and looks frozen. He is so cold that he has decided to take a bath to bring his body temperature back up to normal! For a man who normally doesn't feel the cold, that gives you an idea of the cold snap we're experiencing. No running for me today. Much as I enjoy my runs, I don't relish the idea of putting layers of warm clothing on (base layer, fleece top, windproof jacket), fleece hat, gloves and winter buff and venturing out in the freezing wind. I'd much prefer to stay in the warm, camp by the fireplace drinking mugs of hot chocolate. You know it makes sense, don't you?! It doesn't stop me, however, from sharing some phrases and idioms that we use in the English Language connected with words like
