How Twitter is Reinventing Collaboration Among Educators

How Twitter is Reinventing Collaboration Among Educators | Teaching in the XXI Century | Scoop.it

TWITTER TRANSFORMS EDUCATORS

Before the advent of Twitter, most educators I know had limited opportunities to collaborate with colleagues outside their building. Some subscribed to listservs or participated in online forums, but these outlets lacked critical mass; teachers also networked at in-person conferences and training sessions, but these isolated events didn't provide ongoing support.

Enter Twitter. I've heard many educators say that Twitter is the most effective way to collaborate and that they've learned more with Twitter than they have from years of formal professional development.

Here are some of the specific ways educators are using Twitter to collaborate:

Twitter provides a great opportunity to collaborate with educators outside of your local physical community. The exchange of ideas and perspectives can reenergize your career. “Twitter is often just the introduction — the virtual handshake that opens the door to a deeper collaboration”

So What Has Changed Since I Started Blogging and Tweeting? | Teaching in the XXI Century | Scoop.it

By Dave Meister

The first PHSprincipalBlog (changed to Director 4/1/2009) post was on 9/18/2007.  (332 posts overall) I have been using Twitter for 4 years, 4 month...

We still have a lot of work to do, but I feel more strongly than ever before that we are willing to meet the challenges to make our learning environments relevant and engaging. We have the unique opportunity to design and build a new school complex that will be both flexible and transparent and able to accommodate learning for today’s world and the challenges of tomorrow.

I AM SO GLAD I STARTED TO BLOG AND TWEET!

3 Tools To Massively Increase Your Twitter Exposure

3 Tools To Massively Increase Your Twitter Exposure | Teaching in the XXI Century | Scoop.it

While Facebook and Google Plus social continue to push new features live, battling themselves over who can dominate the market, Twitter remains the most powerful driver of traffic to my site.

Ever since the t.co shortener was introduced, I can see it showing up at the top of my referrers at any given day.

This is very powerful and also quite reassuring. Continuing to improve and work on my Twitter performance has paid off greatly so far.

Social Consumers and the Science of Sharing [INFOGRAPHIC]

Social Consumers and the Science of Sharing [INFOGRAPHIC] | Teaching in the XXI Century | Scoop.it

This post is from Mashable and it has valuable information for your brand marketing strategy. It tells you what your social consumer is most influenced and much more.

"This is an excellent article and a great analysis of the new age, social consumer segmentation. says Chris Abate and I must say I agree with him!

The emphasis on search as being still the main way people research products might be a reality but it’s fast being challenged by social, word-of-mouth referrals from the people we trust must in our lives, our friends/family.

The advent of Sponsored Stories in Facebook’s new plans will continue to erode the dominance of search as the means by which people research products as prep for purchases."

Intro:

If you’re buying a car, do you check Facebook? Or do you read up on Kelley Blue Book values and scour the company website for every spec, from horsepower to miles per gallon?

What about music — do you check Top 40 radio charts or scope out what your Facebook friends are actually listening to on Spotify?

Social media has infiltrated the purchasing funnel, helping consumers make informed decisions, from what to have for lunch to where to go on vacation. Depending on the decision, sometimes you turn to your social graph, and sometimes you turn to Google.

****So, as a brand marketer, you want to know what online channels you should be targeting in order to reach the perfect audience for your product.

But regardless of what kind of consumer you’re trying to reach or what you’re selling,

****your SEO better be top notch — search is the most important influence on the web.

The infographic, featuring data from M Booth and Beyond, analyzes the differences between high and low sharers and various purchasing decisions, helping brands to understand how should be targeting consumers.

You'll find some amazing statistics this is definitely worth your time.

5 Twitter Tips to Increase your Exposure and Engagement

5 Twitter Tips to Increase your Exposure and Engagement | Teaching in the XXI Century | Scoop.it

This excellent piece was written by Nikki Peters of MarketMeSuite for Hubspot. It was curated by JanLGordon covering her topic "Content Curation, Social Media and Beyond" on Scoopit.

It is a question on them ind of just about everyone: How do I get more exposure for my content?  Well, here are some good tips, some of which you may know, but perhaps not all of which you are following?

Here's what caught my attention:

Schedule your tweets!  This is particulalry important if some of your audience is in another time zone and actively engaging in their business day while you sleep.

Analyze your data.  Learn from your analytics and create more tweets like the ones that are successful.

Connect your Blog to your Twitter account and participate in any ensuing conversation

Tweet questions!  This invites interaction.  "Remember that if someone asks you a question in real life, you tend to respond it automatically. Think like a human being when you tweet, and be responsive, too."

"Be Personal, React and Engage!.... The more you engage with your followers on a personal level, the more they'll understand you care about, and the more willing they'll be to connect with you and build a relationship."

Altmetrics, a guide to Twitter for academics, and increasing your academic footprint: our round-up of social media blogs in 2011 | Teaching in the XXI Century | Scoop.it

Over the past year, the use of social media and blogging for academic purposes has continued to grow rapidly. Here, Danielle Moran and Amy Mollett list a selection of their favourite guest posts from the blog, covering why academics might want to embrace social media, and how to measure this as impact.

In 2011, we saw a growth in the use of social media as a tool for research and dissemination by academics and reseachers. Our most popular guest posts of 2011 investigate the possibilities that social media presents, yet academics’ use of such services such as 140 character microblog service Twitter, continue to spur a sharply divided debate.

Here are a small selection of our most read social media blog posts from the last year.

7 Tips for SEO Keyword Optimizing Your Tweets

Written by Laura Liatti for Brand & Capture Blog

Curated by JanLGordon covering  "Content Curation, Social Media & Beyond"

Intro:

Twitter is one of the hottest ways to promote your business. Millions of people use Twitter and you can use this powerful social media tool to reach your target audience down the street or across an ocean.

A few popular (retweeted) tweets using an effective SEO keyword strategy increases traffic to your website and helps with search engine optimization at the same time.

Here's what caught my attention:

**Incorporate your keywords into your Twitter biography as part of a smart SEO keyword strategy.

**Search engines index the information in your biography. Twitter limits your biography to 160 characters so use your keywords wisely in sentences that are informative, clever and make sense.

**Use your keywords as hash tags whenever possible and appropriate. A hash tag is a pound sign, or "#". On Twitter, people use hash tags to participate in conversations about a particular subject.

**If your website offers baking tips, for example, precede your tweets with hash tag keywords like #desserts, #cookies and #cakes.

**Tweet at appropriate times for your particular set of keywords.
