Not a fan based on my children's experience with the whole thing. It does not work the way it states. The classroom becomes a time of reteaching what was supposedly learned from the video the night before. The flipped classroom needs an incredible amount of training with highly skilled, and motivated teachers. I am not a fan.

Am always interested in the student (and parent) voice! Thank you for that insight D Cashmore. I tend to agree with your view on the skill needed to implement an experiential cycle of learning that is effective for the students' learning.

The Flipped Classroom

The Flipped Classroom | Teaching in Higher Education | Scoop.it

The flipped classroom is an exciting new instructional approach. As it is relatively new, much of the information about it only is available in the popular press. Little research can be found. On this page, I am pulling together what I can find relevant to flipped classrooms. Enjoy!

Rosemary Tyrrell, Ed.D.'s insight:

I tried it out. It has some good applications, but I couldn't get the embed code to work in our Sakai LMS. It also froze up when I used a YouTube video - so that limits its usefulness. Check it out and see if you have better results.

The Flipped Classroom model is changing the ways students learn and teachers teach. When you flip your classroom, you offer your students rich, engaging material to consider at home, and you use class time to help them interact with the ideas. Lecturing during class time is minimized and students have a teacher nearby when they are doing work and most likely to need guidance.

The key to "flipped" is to rethink who has control of content and learning. These are some great tactics to help move instruction toward more student-led learning.
