Starfall's Store: Learn to Read with phonics

Starfall's Store: Learn to Read with phonics | Teaching english to kids | Scoop.it
A free website to teach children to read with phonics.
For preschool, kindergarten, and first grade. Exciting phonics games and online interactive books.
Francielly Ogasawara's insight:

Owner: Founded in 2002, Starfall is made possible through the vision of the Polis-Schutz family. Dr. Stephen Schutz and poet Susan Polis Schutz founded Blue Mountain Arts publishing company in 1970 and together with their son, Jared Schutz, created the popular electronic greeting card company, bluemountain.com. The Polis-Schutz family shares a passion for education. Susan Polis Schutz was a teacher in New Jersey and New York City in the 1960s, while Jared Schutz Polis served on the Colorado State Board of Education.

Starfall is produced by a dedicated and talented team led by Brandi Chase. The Starfall team of educators, writers, artists, designers, animators, musicians, and engineers live all over the world! Roger Wilson leads our computer engineering team.

This website it’s a free public service to teach children to read with phonics. Our systematic phonics approach, in conjunction with phonemic awareness practice, is perfect for preschool, kindergarten, first grade, second grade, special education, homeschool, and English language development (ELD, ELL, ESL). Starfall is an educational alternative to other entertainment choices for children.

You can find bunch of fun and creativity activities that the kids will love, because they are very colorful and interactive. Like: songs and stories that focus in the pronunciation.

In the Store you can buy materials to help in the process to teach the kids and in the “Download Center” you can have access to the material that is printed for free.

You can also contribute with your feedback giving your opnion.

The Starfall reading program is designed to be fun, exciting, and to instill confidence in young children as they learn to read. The website and companion printed materials are clear and effective tools to help you implement proven teaching methods. This website was created by carefully observing the way children learn using a computer. The Starfall Website is easy for students to navigate independently, but it is not intended as a surrogate for the teacher. The scientific, research-based reading materials and activities are modeled on the "Big Five" focus areas recommended by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development: phonemic awareness, systematic phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.
