6 Internet Lessons I Learned From My Mom

6 Internet Lessons I Learned From My Mom | Teaching English as a foreign language | Scoop.it

Mob mentality can take over all too easily online. Your social stream has likely been flooded with status updates about breaking news. While it's important to stay current, establish a strong personal brand that doesn't waver based on what's trending. After all, the root of mom's lesson is to stay true to yourself.

I have to admit that I'm not a great fan of grammar, but this is a site that I do really like. It's called English Language and Usage and it is like a Q & A of English grammar. The site has a huge collection of questions that people have sent in about various aspects of English grammar idioms and general usage and anyone who is registered can the try to answer the questions.

How Does Multitasking Change the Way Kids Learn?

How Does Multitasking Change the Way Kids Learn? | Teaching English as a foreign language | Scoop.it

For older students, the media multitasking habit extends into the classroom. While most middle and high school students don’t have the opportunity to text, email, and surf the Internet during class, studies show the practice is nearly universal among students in college and professional school. One large survey found that 80 percent of college students admit to texting during class; 15 percent say they send 11 or more texts in a single class period.

Writing for Interaction

Writing for Interaction | Teaching English as a foreign language | Scoop.it

By writing for interaction, I mean writing that is meant to be interactive for a reader, not simply in the sense that reading is an experience created by both writer and reader, but rather that the decisions made by the reader change what is read. That is, reading practices that enable responses from the text. It is one thing to write an email expecting a response and react to that response. It is another to write a book or other text for a broad audience that is designed to react to the reading choices made by individual members of that audience.
