Blended Learning Booklets for Teachers

Blended Learning Booklets for Teachers | Teaching & Education in the 21st Century | Scoop.it

They have produced a nice page that answers some common blended learning questions, gives exemplars, and provides four excellent booklets on blended learning techniques. We thought that the booklets were excellent at describing and helping with some of the key challenges to blended learning. Definitely worth a read through if you are using blended learning techniques, or if it is something that your school is looking to do in the future.

Susan Gingras Fitzell's insight:

I will never be an advocate of total digital learning. We need balance and humans need personal interaction. Relationship with a "teacher" is statistically proven to increase achievement. This article on Blended Learning provides some much needed insights.

With all the attention paid to PBL, MOOCs, and Flipped Classrooms, the idea of Blended Learning can easily get lost in the shuffle. Yet, this strategy remains very important, particularly for those educators committed to maximizing the efficacy of a face-to-face environment.

Competency-Based Education: Frequently Asked Questions - NCLD

Competency-Based Education: Frequently Asked Questions - NCLD | Teaching & Education in the 21st Century | Scoop.it
Susan Gingras Fitzell's insight:

And I quote, "Are there any potential drawbacks of CBE for students with learning and attention issues?

A. For CBE to work well, schools must be ready to implement it for all students, including those with learning and attention issues. If a school lacks the proper resources—including teachers, time and supports—some students may get left behind.

To keep struggling kids on track, Response-to-Intervention (RTI) and a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). For example, MTSS provides supports and evidence-based instruction. It also uses timely screening, monitoring, assessments and interventions that are tailored to fit each student’s needs."

How many schools are implementing MTSS or RTI with fidelity? And if not, why not? If they are not, it's often because of a host of reasons including school politics, lack of funding, lack of training because of lack of time or lack of funding. CBE is a HUGE shift in how we do education. Will we make that shift with less than what we need to do it correctly?

Consider using this strategy with your students! When students HEAR what they've written, they are more likely to realize how they can make their writing better.  It's, also, a great strategy for ANY writer.

This story focuses on children and adolescents in Mississippi but this is a national problem.  Having more schools understand and fully utilize Positive Behavioral and Intervention Supports is very important. Of equal importance, is educating teachers and other school personnel about the developmental issues that can create learning and behavior problems.

I developed my programs, The Pediatric Profiler for Educators and the Pediatric Profiler for Mental Health Providers, to bring this aspect of training to those who work closely with this special needs population. You kind find information on these programs at my site, www.allchildrenarespecial.com.

But the idea that a global corporation and a state agency would cooperate to entrap children in their schemes chills me to my very old bones. What makes it worse is the indifference of the mainstream media and, of course, the thuggery represented by trying to destroy what was a very straight news story.
Susan Gingras Fitzell's insight:

PLEASE read this... and consider the ramifications if we don't voice our concerns loud and strong. Just imagine if a corporation associated with your work was actively MONITORING your social media and reporting anything they found *inappropriate* to your boss AND the state government and asking for you to be disciplined at work! THINK about this... and look to the future. Where the h&Y^* are we headed?
