TV shows and movies often contain scenes that discuss topics such as Science, Math, Art, Music, and more. While funny and amusing, these scenes also have valid educational merit.
These scenes not only teach students but also make learning more relevant. Students can associate a concept in class to an image they see in their everyday lives. As a result, this increases content retention and makes learning more fun.
Jackie Gerstein proposes an experiential flipped classroom learning model where she believes there a great opportunity to change the predominant didactic model of education that is especially prevalent in upper elementary through graduate school education.

The majority of students study by re-reading notes and textbooks — but the psychologists' research, both in lab experiments and of actual students in classes, shows this is a terrible way to learn material. Using active learning strategies — like flashcards, diagramming, and quizzing yourself — is much more effective, as is spacing out studying over time and mixing different topics together.
