Infographic: What Does an Educational Technologist Do? | Teaching and libraries | Scoop.it

As online technologies have exploded into mainstream education and corporate training, the need for professionals who are highly qualified in designing, developing, implementing, and assessing instruction has increased. However, the roles and responsibilities of educational technologists have become as varied as the employers who hire them and the tools they use. In order to shed some light on the matter, 161 EdTech professionals were surveyed in order to define the role(s) they play in K-12, higher education, corporate, and government work environments.

I like this quote from the article: "Works at the intersection of technology and education to make sure that learning occurs..."

Rebecca Penina Simon's curator insight, May 19, 2013 8:28 PM

Much of what an Educational Technologist does or will do depends on the school's vision.

16 Apps That Motivate Kids to Read

16 Apps That Motivate Kids to Read | Teaching and libraries | Scoop.it

"For every kid who is caught hiding beneath his covers with a flashlight and a novel at midnight, there is another who has to be begged and pleaded with to read.  And the latter might need a little extra—shall we call it encouragement?—to become a great reader. To help, we've rounded up a list of the top apps that not only teach essential reading skills but also motivate kids—even the most book-phobic—to read, read and read some more."

7 Habits Of Highly-Effective Teachers Who Effectively Use Technology

7 Habits Of Highly-Effective Teachers Who Effectively Use Technology | Teaching and libraries | Scoop.it

"In most ways, teachers that use technology in the classroom aren’t much different than those that don’t. Any teacher worth their salt assesses, and then revises planned instruction based on data from those assessments... But using technology in the classroom–and using it effectively–might require some slight adjustments on the part of the teacher to sustain the effort, creative problem-solving, and innovation required to actually improve learning through the use of technology. (And great administrators, too.)"

Drora Arussy's curator insight, May 14, 2013 8:39 AM

The most important one to me is number 7. Teachers care and want to find the most effective ways to teach the children. Of course, as educators we are facilitators and must adapt and be flexible, but without the basic desire to enhance education for our students there is no possibility of success.

Drora Arussy's comment, May 16, 2013 12:59 PM
One of the things that I have always encouraged and include in any training, is the teacher as facilitator. As such, they automatically incorporate many of these qualitities, including embracing change, flexibility, adapt to situations, etc. Technology is there enhance good teaching and many of the primary skills are the same. Whick habits do you possess?
Amy Perrett's curator insight, May 19, 2013 7:16 PM

Technology is a growing development that is being enhanced into the educational learning curriculum. Technology in classrooms today has become essential to students learning, this is because the younger generations of today need this technological knowledge so they can expand their life skills for their futures. The 7 habits of highly effective teachers who use technology is a set of strategies that teachers can work off so their planning and teaching for technology is effective and accurate.

Why MOOCs are Good for Teacher Professional Development

Why MOOCs are Good for Teacher Professional Development | Teaching and libraries | Scoop.it

"While I am not a huge fan of MOOCs (See, MOOCs – The Opium of the Masses, I think that there is one area in which they might actually be extremely useful – ongoing teacher professional development (PD). They are a good fit to help meet a very specific need, which they could do quite well given teachers’ experience with education."

Lee Green's curator insight, May 22, 2013 8:31 AM
I've had several teachers go through the How Things Work course through Coursera. They loved it. The feedback I received is the course was challenging it gave them resources they could immediately use in the classroom. They were also able to receive valuable professional development on their own time without missing instruction. There is nothing wrong with that!
Nicholas Pringle's curator insight, May 22, 2013 9:43 AM

I think there is huge potential for MOOCs but teacher professional development is certainly an area where they will be highly useful.
