Teachers Inspiring Teachers in a New Age of PD - Getting Smart by Susan Lucille Davis -

Teachers Inspiring Teachers in a New Age of PD - Getting Smart by Susan Lucille Davis - | Teaching and Learning with Teachers | Scoop.it
A major shift in the force of education has emerged as teachers have become self-directed, independent designers of their own learning.
Mary Perfitt-Nelson's insight:

A lovely entry about how teacher learning has become more self-directed thanks to social media and technology.

'As I have often said, the teaching profession requires its practitioners to harness enormous reserves of physical and emotional energy. Looking to one another for inspiration is one way to refill those energy reserves.  More than that, we grow together as professionals and as human beings even as we design our professional learning in a way that is meaningful and personal. As a result, we pay it forward, creating more learning and inspiration for others. Isn’t that what teaching is all about?"

THE "Self-Directed" (autodidact) is very important, learning at its own pace and by own design; curation plays a big role there and I recommend to any Learner!

Curation together with Social Media Twitter and a PLN (Personal Learning Network) are an unbeatable Trio!

Mary Perfitt-Nelson's insight:

One of the best articles I've read lately.

"People have great intentions.  They just don't have vision."  Isn't this how people treat LIFE, as well?  They hop on the train and keep going.  No stopping.  No reflecting.  Lots of lemmings with empty smiles on the way to the end.  Expecting something big when in fact, the train just stops.

What is our purpose?  As leaders, we should be the best problem solvers and finders there are.  This IS what we want our kids to be; our teachers to be.  Our schools to support.  We can't lead if we live in yesterday or hope for a better tomorrow without DOING something to make it happen.

"The important thing is to not stop questioning", Einstein said.  When we stop questioning, we cease to grow.  Stagnation scares the heck out of me more than death does.

Teachers or Facilitators? 10 Reasons Why Educators Should Step Out of the Way and Encourage Independent Learning

Teachers or Facilitators? 10 Reasons Why Educators Should Step Out of the Way and Encourage Independent Learning | Teaching and Learning with Teachers | Scoop.it
Mary Perfitt-Nelson's insight:

I read this today on twitter:  "What is our value if we are only experts at content? Instead, we should be experts of context. - dr. Hite"

While I struggle with the terminology (teacher vs facilitator), as someone primarily responsible for learning with adults, the term facilitator makes more sense.  Honoring principles of adult learning...........you design to facilitate as much of what they do with new information is apply it immediately to what they know.  How you design the context will facilitate or impede that process.
