it really hits the nail on the head. We have been in about five primary schools in various forms and classes and have not witnessed anything but teacher-centered teaching. There is no material to stimulate or attract curiosity and frankly, I would be asleep as a student. On the other hand with classes as large as this anything but the chalk and talk approach seems a lot to ask for.

In my opinion the crux is to find a feasible child-centered approach and train teachers in confidently using other teaching methods, such as group work etc. I also wonder whether introducing phonetics rather than word recognition in the early stages would make sense. Anything to make lessons more interactive and get those little brains to work rather than repeat only…"

I am trying to get some phonic reading materials donated - more on May 17th!
