iPads in the classroom – A development of a taxonomy for the use of iPads in schools

The investigation shows that almost all objectives, teaching tasks and concepts of thecurriculum can be promoted with the aid of tablet computers. Nevertheless, a lot ofprerequisites in terms of hardware and software are required for a successful integration of tablets. In addition, there are some drawbacks, such as the lack of teacher training and slower text production.

11 Mind Mapping Apps for the iPad

11 Mind Mapping Apps for the iPad | Teaching and Learning English through Technology | Scoop.it

Mind mapping is a method that works for quite a lot of people. Brain storming, idea mapping, thought generation, think tanks – call it what you will. Traditionally done on large pieces of paper, why not use your iPad to create mind maps? You could use these for your own purposes, or “convert” those large flip charts into a smaller, digital version.

For some reason computer programing as a career seemed to take a back seat to other math/science/computer careers, esp.during the late 90s. Now it is time to get back to that, a million programers needed in the next 10 years is a great opportunity for many kids, I hope they do more to target more girls, not just boys.

Narrated Slideshow – Screencast Tool Comparison

Narrated Slideshow – Screencast Tool Comparison | Teaching and Learning English through Technology | Scoop.it

A screencast is a digital recording of a computer screen with audio narration. Screencasts can include telestrator (‘John Madden pen’) annotations. Narrated slideshows include audio recordings synchronized to images without hand-drawn annotations.

Screencasts and narrated slideshows can be created with two kinds of tools:

1. Browser-based: Create an account on the website and use a modern web browser like Google Chrome or FireFox to record, save and share it.

2. Client-based: Download and install software on a computing device to record and save.

The voting 'eggs' in the suitcase, where each needed to be programmed, are obsolete.  Students and teachers can use their web devices to quickly set up polls and other interactive feedback quickly and easily with web based options, of which this is one of the simplest.  For iPad users, check out NearPod, Socrative, or Doceri, each with its own feature ist, to see which works best for you!  It can be difficult to move from traditonal modes of presentation to building interaction into instruction, but I am trying to plan future PD courses using this type of technology.  I would love feedback from teachers and professional development specialists about what works, pitfalls to look out for, and any other resources that you may suggest.

iPad Tip ~ How to Instantly Organize Apps in Alphabetical Order

iPad Tip ~ How to Instantly Organize Apps in Alphabetical Order | Teaching and Learning English through Technology | Scoop.it

"If you love to keep your apps organized, we have a great tip for you today. By going to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Home Screen Layout, your iPad will not only reorganize all stock apps to their default positions, but also organize all non-stock apps in alphabetical order."

Via John Evans
Paula Jamieson's curator insight, May 7, 7:05 PM

Maybe this is something that you've always wanted to do? Have your iPad apps organized in alphabetical order. This would be a nightmare for me (a visual learner) as more often than not I don't necessarily know the name of the app but I know what the icon looks like (or the folder that I have put it into). I choose to organize my apps into folders eg ABC's, Word Work, Nurturing Thinking etc. Keep in mind though I use my device predominantly for 'modelling' and to inform others so I have hundreds (did I say hundreds.....my 64gb device is almost full AGAIN).

If though, you have individual devices assigned to your classroom that are not jam packed with too many Apps, this may be just the thing for you!

John Pearce's curator insight, May 8, 9:39 PM

I must admit that I prefer to organise my apps under folders according to type, (though there are times that this system also 'lets me down'). This could be a useful strategy for user who have quite a few screens of apps.
