6 Ways to Make Learning Visible - Brilliant or Insane - Brilliant or Insane @AngelaStockman | Teaching and learning | Scoop.it
“ How do we distinguish knowledge, skills, and thinking from….learning? How do we make learning visible, so that we might surface and document powerful discoveries about the influence of our teaching on learners? These questions will guide several of my conversations with teachers on the ground this week, as we begin exploring John Hattie’s work and the Reggio Emilia approach. Both concern themselves with the moves that students and teachers make as learning occurs, and both inspire teachers to commit to documentation, as the evidence captured helps teachers and students assess the impact of their efforts far better than grades do”

How To Make Learning Visible: A Spectrum - TeachThought

How To Make Learning Visible: A Spectrum - TeachThought | Teaching and learning | Scoop.it
“ Below is a kind of model to think about this. It is setup here as a spectrum. Stage 1 represents early thinking about the idea–essentially, where many classrooms are today, while Stage 4 represents more developed thinking–what “classrooms” might seek to become as we move beyond “I’m done with this assignment” thinking. The big idea, then, is to evolve the thinking behind letter grades, certificates, and badges in pursuit of a genuine ecology of learning–pushing past simply sharing evidence of “mastery” (which is perishable), toward a focus on the students as they ask questions, seek information, apply their own thinking, and see learning as a fluid–and entirely personal–process.”

As the tittle says kids do not love technology all the time, for instance, in the article the author interviewed some students from primary school and while all agreed that having a tablet or a computer are great help, they all said that doing their homework with these devices makes them take longer to finished it, due to the various distractions they can find on these gadgets, like games or texting, they do not focus on what the students really need to do.

The Future of Learning - Learning {Re}imagined - Medium

We’re seeing a phenomenal investment going into educational technology right now, some real big investments, but these investments are in using technology to maintain and industrialise nineteenth century practices. It’s as if we agreed that the purpose of education was simply content distribution and testing, and therefore we don’t really need skilled teachers. We could actually offload that to technology.
