Commedia Dell’arte(Comedy of Art)

 Commedia Dell'arte is recognised as a form of Italian comedy, dating back to 14th century. Although it is a comedy from the past, it is still practised, particularly in the high school curriculum. Students will take on a Commedia character and put them in a comedic situation using the Elements of Drama. Take a look at these slides and then I want you to answer the following questions:

 

What Elements of Drama contribute to the comedic value of Commedia Dell'arte?

 

Although these characters are very exaggerated, how do we relate or even sympathise with them?

Students in their junior years will be exposed to the foundation of Drama & Theatre which is The Elements of Drama. These elements can include Focus, Tension, Timing, Rhythm, Contrast, Mood, Space etc. Students need these elements to get started in drama. Each element serves a purpose in a dramatic context.
