Internet marketing is all about try, try and try again!

Not everything will work today, maybe it was the wrong type of content, the wrong platform or bad timing.


Don't be focused on the numbers. I've seen many big brands do a post on a platform like Slideshare and only get a few 100's of views. They don't give up they spin the content and use it on a different platform. 


There is a right and wrong to internet marketing. The WRONG is never trying or testing your ideas. The RIGHT is have one more viewer than yourself.

"I was reading the book The Smartest Kids in the World by Amanda Ripley and couldn't help wondering what our schools would be like today if we were forced to teach without the technology (including copy machines). She describes three school settings in South Korea, Finland and Poland as being devoid of the technology U.S. teachers take for granted, and how, especially in math and science, their best students outperform our best students by a wide margin. I agree with the premise of her book: good teaching and high expectations make the difference, and technology is icing on the cake. My concern is that we are at a point where our students spend more time using technology and less time actually learning."

Are you looking for ways to increase rigor in your classroom? This post provides three strategies as well as a number of examples to help you. The strategies are:

1. Design With Inquiry & Diversity

2. Have Students Create Videos–From Beginning To End

3. Use Virtual Tours

Additional detail is available in the post for each of the strategies and suggestions for adding rigor in ELA and math is also discussed. In fact, the final paragraph states asking "students to write riddles about words, rather than having them simply write a definition...requires students to think at higher levels to complete the activity." Adding rigor may not be as difficult as might think...but it may require that we rethink how we are teaching.

@Jaana Nyström is a great curator and she just beat me to the punch :). When she shared her EPIC journey of using G+ to move from "nobody" to "somebody" I planned to blog about her amazing journey. The content and message was too good to be trapped in comments.

Read this post CAREFULLY as you may recognize where you are on Jaana's timeline of personal brand development. There are several "inside baseball" tips to pay particular attention to including:

* Don't worry about perfection, start publishing.
* G+ is an AMAZING and vastly under used tool (start there add more social nets later).
* No matter what, keep turning the crank (keep going) since the only sin you and your personal band can't recover from is NOT PLAYING.

Great stuff from an amazing curator. What lessons did you learn from Jaana Nystrom? What similar lessons have you learned as you create a meaningful personal brand?
