Curation in Learning | Ben Betts is...

Curation in Learning | Ben Betts is... | Educational Technology Integration | Scoop.it

Ben Betts: We can think of digital curation as being useful to us in four broad roles that I’m calling Inspiration, Aggregation, Integration and Application. Inspiration is how I term curation that is done by other people on your behalf, outside of a formal learning environment.  Aggregation is the same thing, but done within a formal learning context.  Integration is a more personal curation process; how individuals blend new learning experiences with existing thoughts.  And finally Application is how individuals apply new insights in the real world; how we individually manage knowledge on a day-to-day basis.  I capture this flow in a simple matrix that demonstrates how the four types of curation can flow into each other in a continuous learning cycle:

Preparing for the digital university: a review of the history and current state of distance, blended, and online learning

Preparing for the digital university: a review of the history and current state of distance, blended, and online learning | Educational Technology Integration | Scoop.it

The sheer scale of numbers of students led to bold proclamations of education disruption and a sector on the verge of systemic change. However, from the perspective of 2015, these statements appear increasingly erroneous as moocs have proven to be simply an additional learning opportunity instead of a direct challenge to higher education itself. Many of the issues confronting early mooc development and offerings could have been reduced if greater consideration was given to research literature in learning sciences and technology enabled learning.

TEACHING IN AN ONLINE LEARNING CONTEXT by Terry Anderson

Ana Cristina Pratas's curator insight, April 21, 2015 5:59 AM

"This chapter focuses on the role of the teacher or tutor in an online learning context. It uses the theoretical model developed by Garrison, Anderson, and Archer (2000) that views the creation of an effective online educational community as involving three critical components: cognitive presence, social presence, and teaching presence. This model was developed and verified through content analysis and by other qualitative and quantitative measures in recent research work at the University of Alberta (for papers resulting from this work see Anderson, Garrison, Archer & Rourke, N.d.) (http://www.atl.ualberta.ca/cmc)."
