We are now in the age of visual information where visual content plays a role in every part of life. As 65 percent of the population is visual learners, images are clearly key to engaging people in eLearning courses.

Moving and still images have been included in learning materials for decades, but only now has faster broadband, cellular networks, and high-resolution screens made it possible for high-quality images to be a part of eLearning visual design. Graphic interfaces made up of photos, illustrations, charts, maps, diagrams, and videos are gradually replacing text-based courses.

In this post, we will dig deep into some statistics and facts to further convince of why eLearning developers should embrace visuals when creating their courses.

«Los padres que quieran hijos felices tendrán adultos esclavos de los demás» | Teacher Training | Scoop.it
El filósofo navarro advierte que la sociedad no tratará a los niños por el grado de felicidad que tengan, sino por aquello que sepan hacer
DTLLS tutor's insight:

Very interesting article (in Spanish) about the importance of not trying so hard to make our children happy. Instead it is important to teach them how to cope with life, how to be resilient. When we look for a professional, we want somebody who can do their job. Not necessarily somebody who is happy. To succeed in life happiness is only one element and not the all defining one...

Being Critically Reflective - What does it mean?

Being Critically Reflective - What does it mean? | Teacher Training | Scoop.it
The terms 'critical' and 'reflection' are sorely misunderstood in education. Being critical is often misinterpreted as being negative. 'Reflection' is also frequently distorted to mean "reflect on what you are doing wrong". Too often the students that we teach give negative feedback when asked to be critical. So to counter act this, educators initiate strategies such as '2 stars and a wish' and SWNI (strengths, weaknesses, new ideas).
These strategies are designed to make reflective practices a more positive experience for students. It teaches them that being critically reflective is not just a negative activity, that it is important to be positive and give feedback to help improve or make something better.

Good points.  Some video more engaging and to the point than others.

Mary Starry's curator insight, July 21, 2014 12:01 AM

As pharmacy educators, we tend to immediately assume we'll be producing a "knowledge" focused video for flipped classrooms or eLearning. However, there are times when a motivational, how-to, or simulation video would be more appropriate for the content and provide an interesting contrast for the learner.  This short article provides information and examples of the different types of videos you can use to meet your objectives.

The Secret of Effective Motivation - The New York Times Sunday Review

The Secret of Effective Motivation - The New York Times Sunday Review | Teacher Training | Scoop.it

"THERE are two kinds of motive for engaging in any activity: internal and instrumental. If a scientist conducts research because she wants to discover important facts about the world, that’s an internal motive, since discovering facts is inherently related to the activity of research. If she conducts research because she wants to achieve scholarly renown, that’s an instrumental motive, since the relation between fame and research is not so inherent. Often, people have both internal and instrumental motives for doing what they do."
