10 Ways Teacher Planning Should Adjust To The Google Generation by Terry Heick For the Google Generation, information isn't scarce, and knowing has the illusion…
Tracy Shaw's insight:

1. Make the work Google-proof  anchor learning experiences around new kinds of thinking that force the synthesis of disparate ideas, media, and communities. Scenario-based learning, challenge-based learning, project-based learning, learning simulations, and so on.

2. Force them to grapple with big questions without answers.

3. Actually make social networks and media channels part of curriculum

Their identification, navigation, analysis, and evaluation should be as much a part of study as branches of government or the writing process.

4. Focus on learning strategies

See #2. Rather than emphasizing content, emphasize how to deal with an abundance of fluid and perishable content on a daily basis.

5. Create curriculum and lessons that absorb data seamlessly

6. Anticipate student needs

This tool look interesting and you might have students use it when they are doing research. We know how hard it can be to get students to read longer articles. This has the potential to let them see if his article is important to their topic. Will it help them answer their questions?

Intriguing Networks's curator insight, December 3, 2013 3:35 AM

B

Possibly not just for teachers, but if it works so well then maybe the authors might need to think again, 'brevity the soul of wit'

Phil Turner's curator insight, December 3, 2013 6:03 PM

This looks surprisingly effective (in my test of one article) ... and could be a useful first order tool for scanning large amounts of work.  Students might learn to summarise/paraphrase by looking carefully at how the results relate to the original text (if they can resist just cutting and pasting the new words).

John Shank's curator insight, February 20, 2014 1:54 PM

The change from an environment of information scarcity to over abundance fundamentally challenges the ability of the library to select, create, organize, and facilitate access to resources that advance intellectual discovery and information literacy/lifelong learning skills. So we need to be forward thinking and mindful of how our services evolve to solve the problems and challenges this new environment creates for our faculty, staff, and students.

Sue Osborne's curator insight, February 20, 2014 5:20 PM

Some interesting thinking points here...

Glenda Morris's curator insight, April 8, 2014 1:07 AM

A good presentation reinforcing the point that libraries need to consider creating learner centred collections - to enhance engagement and interactivity.
