Unleashing the Power of Positivity in Your School

Unleashing the Power of Positivity in Your School | Teacher Resources for Our Staff | Scoop.it

A positive community of educators within a school has a powerful effect on the students who learn there. Individually, teachers contribute to that positive environment by exhibiting and modeling an optimistic outlook and can-do attitude. An understanding of the role that emotions play in learning can lay the foundation for positive and productive interactions with students, colleagues, administrators, and parents. As neuroscientist Richard Davidson explains in his book The Emotional Life of Your Brain, "Emotion works with cognition in an integrated and seamless way to enable us to navigate the world of relationships, work, and spiritual growth."

Voice gives learners a chance to share their opinions about something they believe in. We adapted the Continuum of Voice chart we used from Students at the Center in our post Learner Voice Demonstrates Commitment to Building Agency. The learning environment changes as you encourage voice and can see learners taking more control of their learning. We call this process the Stages of Personalized Learning Environments (PLE). - See more at: http://www.personalizelearning.com/2016/01/continuum-of-voice-what-it-means-for.html#sthash.kLBn5zQT.dpuf

Giving learners voice encourages them to participate in and eventually to own and drive their learning. This means a complete shift from the traditional approach of teaching compliance that develops a “learned helplessness” to encouraging voice where there is authenticity in the learning.

18 Apps For Teaching Kids Programming

18 Apps For Teaching Kids Programming | Teacher Resources for Our Staff | Scoop.it

So, what is the best way to present programming for kids? Through play, of course. The best way of teaching kids code is to present it as a game, such as using Minecraft and its red logic blocks. As a result, computer coding for kids has never been easier or more entertaining. The end result is to hopefully have kids coding all the technology they are using and thus create a better, brighter and more customizable future for themselves.
