Bloomin' Apps

Bloomin' Apps | Teacher Resources and other Helps | Scoop.it

Kathy was one of the first teachers who offered internet based assistance to teachers.  She has always been at the head of the edtech pack and this latest rendition of her work is her usual high quality interpretation of how students learn.

She states: However, I was recently reflecting (again) on the triangular shape the Bloom's taxonomies utilize.  Since the cognitive processes are meant to be used when necessary, and any learner goes up and down the categories as they create new knowledge, I was thinking another type of image might be more explanatory.

Here is my first draft of the idea of the "interlocking of the cognitive processes".

Letting Go of Boolean Operators: Rethinking How Research Is Taught in Schools | ALA TechSource

Letting Go of Boolean Operators: Rethinking How Research Is Taught in Schools | ALA TechSource | Teacher Resources and other Helps | Scoop.it

"I am constantly struggling with the sense that I’m doing a lot of talking for nothing. I painstakingly teach kids how to use a database and they go straight back to Wikipedia as soon as I turn them loose. I show them how to use keywords and operators and they always fall back on their “ask Google a question” method."

Some worthwhile things to consider in teaching information searching!

"One of the best things the Internet blessed us with (besides Maru the box-loving cat) involves increased educational opportunities for children and adults alike. Although some progress still needs to be made when it comes to accessibility opening lessons up to special needs learners, there are plenty of resources for engaging a wide variety of absorption styles.Whether you’re a teacher looking to incorporate new media into a classroom setting, a homeschooling family, or a parent hoping to supplement the day’s formal coursework, the following resources offer some particularly great examples of using digital technology to get kids exploring the universe. They’re fun. They’re free. And they feature a diverse selection of topics and strategies, meaning almost every user will find something of interest."
