claiton gonçalves lopes's insight:

Author (s): Fabricio Carpinejar
O Estado de S. Paul - 28/01/2013

Died in Santa Maria today. Who is not dead? Died at Rua dos Andradas, 1925. In a choppy slope of smoke.

The smoke was so black never in Rio Grande do Sul Never a cloud was so ominous.

Not the most morbid and electrical storms desire their company. Follow alone, spare, page torn from a map.

The smoke corrupted the sky forever. Blue is gray, anoitecemos on January 27, 2013.

The flames calmed down at 5:30, but death will never be controlled.

I died because I have a teenage daughter who takes to return home.

I died because I went into a nightclub thinking how there would in case of fire.

I died because I prefer to be near the stage to hear the best banda.

Died because they confuse the bathroom door with the emergency.

Died because the fire never apologizes when passing.

I died because I was somehow all who died.

Died suffocated excess death, like waking up again?

The building had not landed in the morning, like a plane on the runway runaway.

The output was a single and fear came on all sides.

Teenagers will not wake up at lunchtime. They will not remember anything. Or understand how suddenly distanced themselves from the future.

Over two hundred young people without the final kiss of mother, father, siblings.

The phones still ring in the chest of the victims in the extended Municipal Gymnasium.

Families still looking for their children. Kids in college are eternally silent.

Nobody has the courage to meet and tell what happened.

The words have lost their meaning.

The poet and chronicler, gaucho, author of Five Manas (2004, 6th edition) and Oh My God, Oh My Jesus (2012, 2nd edition), both published by Bertrand Brazil

I cant believe the cease fire lasted all but 40 minutes!  Putin and Russia are a bunch of scumbags that are just looking for conflict.  As if Russia is not large enough that they have to scrap for these small areas of Ukraine.  Its going to be because of assholes like this that get other countries involved and many lives end up getting lost.

Unit 4 :

Russia beginning to take violent actions against the Ukraine. It is interesting to view the military strategies that countries take, and to see the outcomes of these schemes.

I never knew how differently France and America value religion

I never knew how differently France and America value religion | teacher in love | Scoop.it
In the United States, we speak easily of different ethnic and religious communities. But the reality is far different in France, where the Charlie Hebdo attacks have brought religion and its place in French society back to the top of the agenda.

Via Seth Dixon

Quentin Sylvester's curator insight, March 17, 12:57 AM

Unlike in the United States, a nation made up of many different communities, France seems to want to achieve the goal of being one nation made of one community. Through this, cultural and religious assimilation are common-and forced-for Muslims and Jews in the country, and religion is expected to be a private matter. This clearly shows the difference in societal views on religion and its place in the lives of the people of a country

Ryan Tibari's curator insight, March 24, 9:50 AM

It's interesting how two western civilizations view religions. America is very religiously based, and acts through their beliefs. In France, religion is not viewed negatively, but isn't quite as important as it is in America. The different views on religion are not necessarily extreme, but still pose as a difference between the two regions.

Gareth Jukes's curator insight, May 27, 10:00 AM

Cultural conflicts, and law and policy to protect culture-

This article explains the differences between the United States and France, and how they both have very different views on culture. It also explains how in France Charlie Hebdo attacks have increased, thus increasing the demand for culture and religion.

This article explains how simple it is for us in the United States culture and ethnic wise, while in other countries, it is something that is not wanted to be messed with.

Let’s Talk About Geography and Ebola

Let’s Talk About Geography and Ebola | teacher in love | Scoop.it
Why knowing where countries are in Africa matters for how the rest of the world thinks about Ebola.

Cultural and media norms that often refer to Africa as one entity rather than an 11.7 million-square-mile land mass comprised of 54 countries and over 1.1 billion people who speak over 2,000 different languages.  This cultural confusion means that, when a dangerous virus like Ebola breaks out, Americans who are used to referring to “Africa” as one entity may make mistakes in understanding just how big of a threat Ebola actually is, who might have been exposed to it, and what the likelihood of an individual contracting it might be.  This Ebola outbreak is wreaking havoc on African economies beyond the three most heavily affected by Ebola, and that damage is completely avoidable. The East and Southern African safari industry provides a good example. Bookings for safaris there — including for the famed Great Migration in Kenya and Tanzania — have plummeted due to the Ebola outbreak. These actions are based in fear, not reality.

Giselle Figueroa's curator insight, November 4, 2014 4:24 PM

I completely agree with this article. Most of people see Africa as one entity, which is not true. I include myself in that group of people because I used to think the same thing. After analyzing this issue in one of my class, I could realized that is not true. There is a lot of people who think that especially when the Ebola issue.

Lora Tortolani's curator insight, March 18, 9:36 PM

It doesn't surprise me that the average person doesn't know his geography.  It shocks the hell out of me that a college would put themselves in a situation to look that stupid!  Do your research people.

Jared Medeiros's curator insight, March 29, 5:08 PM

This is another example of stereotyping taking its course through Africa.  Even though I am aware of the size and diversity of Africa, I was guilty of associating Ebola with the whole continent and not just the affected areas.  Same thing goes with the AIDS virus and other things, such as poverty.  Articles are great for people in other parts of the world to read to better educate them on the size and diversity of Africa and that there are many different ways of life in its 54 countries.

This inspirational graphic sets out to disprove that notion and remind the audience that external skills are only a function of the internal dispositions that allowed them to grow.
