Being a good leader with the potential for greatness really means you have done the personal work to tune into your intuition and gut feelings. Neuroscience tells us what we've always anecdotally known, we have a second brain, yep that's right, your second brain resides in your gut (more details on that in another post). 

 

Emotional intelligence is just one of many key performance indicators for leaders, however emotional intelligence is key to becoming a successful leader, that's for sure.

The article uses Facebook as an example because In the early years Facebook painted on their office walls "Done is better than Perfect."  The author ask us to imagine where Facebook would be today if they had waited for perfection before launching.

 

Each of us has the same opportunity to manage our time wisely and to not always seek perfection because in our fast paced world, getting things done well and done first can make the difference.

 

This excerpt speaks to three things that we can do to assure we always work toward getting the right things DONE.

 

"One issue that perfectionists often run into is not understanding that all tasks don’t require the same amount of effort and time. In these scenarios, Saunders suggests thinking about the INO technique, which stands for investment, neutral, and optimized:

 

Investment activities are those that have a high ROI so you spend more time on them and you get a big return.

 

Neutral activities are ones that you get in what you put out. Examples of neutral activities are staff meetings and standard reports you’re responsible for.

 

Optimized activities are tasks that have no return for you spending longer time on them. Examples of optimized activities are administrative duties and email.

 

By looking at tasks in this way, perfectionists are assigning a sense of value to certain activities instead of approaching every single task in the exact same way."

To gain more sales begin by thinking about who you are in service to, think of the thoughful and insightful questions you should ask, then go to them, ask your questions and LISTEN to what they tell you. Listening assures that your offer translates into excatly the type of added value solution/product they told you would change their world for the better.

 

Human centered design assures every outcome begins with the end in mind, the end being a thorough understanding of how your customer is changed after they have your product or solution.
