Author Jerod Morris of Copyblogger covers it all here quickly and succinctly:

  1. Why stories are so powerful
  2. The elements of a good story
  3. The elements for a remarkable story

And I really like this comment:

"Stories about dying, mothers, and fighting for your ideasStories about snowboarding, subdural hematomas, and the secret of life.

Hell, even made-up stories about CEOs on ether trips shooting social media darlings with elephant tranquilizersThey persuade in different ways and for different goals. But they persuade."

The story elements he lists are:
  1. A hero (better to say 'protagonist' IMHO)
  2. A goal
  3. An obstacle
  4. A mentor (sometimes but not always)
  5. A moral

Even better, Morris includes examples of companies and their stories. Hooray! We like examples. Makes everything much more concrete. And they show us how we can apply Morris' advice to our own organizations.

Have fun checking out this article!

The 4 Ways You Can Use Body Language To Influence Success

Act as if and your body language (and mood) will eventually follow suit.

If you see someone frowning, head bowed, shoulders slumped, it’s a fair bet they’re feeling low in confidence. But which came first: the slumped shoulders or the bad mood?

Your body language doesn’t merely reflect your emotions, it’s often the cause. By learning some of the principal ways that your own posture, gestures, facial expression and even tone of voice affect your mind, you will be more aware of the factors influencing your mood, and give yourself an edge in presentations and negotiations.

Karen Dietz's comment, October 19, 2013 9:45 PM
Hans, you are so right -- it's not only about your product, but about what a company stands for. The article I curated today on 3 New Story Types also addresses this. Thanks for commenting!
Karen Dietz's comment, October 19, 2013 9:53 PM
Hey Jim -- I'm so glad the article really stands out for you. And I agree wholeheartedly with your comments. Would you believe I've been working with 1 client for 2 years and it's not about storytelling yet -- we are focusing about improving the organization internally so they will be able to tell a story that they live. We are almost ready to focus on storytelling as an organizational strategy. It's fascinating work. And rare, to your points above. Check out the other article I curated today on 3 new stories to tell. It's based on new research that's been released about the bottom line benefits for an organization that lives its stories. It's much better than the ''story doing' research that was released a few months ago.

In the spirit of vintage I'd have to reflect on the adage "all that's old is new again" with regard to "history" -- I'd choose the quintessential "vintage" sounds of Shirley Bassey in the Propellerheads' infectiously-good groove, "History Repeating." - Paul Kowalchuk.

How to Create Storied Videos to Capture Your Audience | Chummaa...therinjuppome! | Scoop.it

When it comes to marketing strategy, videos are powerful. How powerful? On Facebook, for example, videos are shared 12 times more than non-video posts. And let’s not forget YouTube, the second largest search engine in the world (after Google, of course). The ability of videos to increase user engagement is unsurpassed.

According to YouTube’s statistics page, they get over 800 million unique visitors each month, users view more than 4 billion hours of video each month and upload 72 hours of video every minute. That’s a lot of potential for your video....

They have devised new designs to make the content of the website juggle with its design. This makes their clients and the market of their clients benefit from the art and the content that is spilled beautifully in the canvas of the World Wide Web.

But the clients and the market are not the only people who benefit from this artistic explosion. Other web designers also benefit from this. The inspiration that has overflowed on the Internet has made a lot of artists do better, and learning, in this particular case, is through modelling.
