A new book suggests that the growing number of interfaith couples don’t know exactly what they’re getting into.

Via Peter Nathan
Jerry de Gier's insight:

I interviewed an interfaith couple a few years ago that shared their frustrations with being an interfaith marriage. They said that it was fine early in life but as they got older and their faith became more important to them, it could have divided them except for their commitment to each other. It is harder than some think.  JD

Coming prepared for a meeting is the best way for all participants to get the most out of the meeting. Many meetings participants wait until they get to the meeting to start thinking about the topic.

The Use and Abuse of Technology in the Classroom

The Use and Abuse of Technology in the Classroom | Talk is Cheap | Scoop.it

"I have been concerned, though, by some of the ways that I see technology being used. Technology should not just allow us to do things in a more engaging way; it should allow us to do new things that we thought were not possible. It is those new things that are the real value technology provides.  It is not enough to USE technology. You must use it well."

Via John Evans
Jerry de Gier's insight:

This is a great article on the right uses of technology in the classroom.

Susan Gingras Fitzell's comment, January 6, 8:52 AM
I have been witness to technology being used poorly in the classroom. I'm a huge advocate for technology that enhances focused and targeted instruction. However, that often means that the classroom teacher has to set up the class so students are supported and monitored. Otherwise, young children will simply be clicking blindly to see what happens next and older youth will be sneaking to other places on the web. It always amazes me that I can be observing a class from the back of the room and watch students flip screens so fast when the teacher comes by. Yet, they don't seem to care that there's an adult right behind them observing what they are up to. Also, it's tempting to use technology in the classroom as a way to keep students quiet... It's a powerful tool. Use it well.

(From the article): There is, of course, a common theme running through the occasions I’ve described. Each of them is a self-indulgent response.  In communication, as in leadership, self-indulgence will get in the way of success every time.
