PowToon: AMAZING free animation tool

PowToon: AMAZING free animation tool | TACCLE2 | Scoop.it

...I have discovered a new creation site. Holy wow this is a cool tool. Basically, it makes you (and your students) look like rockstars when they present. You know all of those super cool animated videos that tell a story through drawings on a whiteboard? Now you can make those all on your own with a super simple drag-drop tool. Meet PowToon. It is awesome.

Although it frustrated me at first, once I got the hang of Powtoon, I found that it is a great option for my students to use to make a presentation.

Beth Dichter's curator insight, August 8, 5:53 PM

Mosa Mack: Science Detective is a new site that has launched their first science mystery for students in Grades 4 - 8 (although they note students as young as 2nd graders have tested it as have students in high school).

The first mystery, A Growling Stomach, is just over six minutes in length. In addition to the video you will find resources for Band A (Grades 4 and 5) and Band B (Grades 6, 7 and 8). The resources include:

* Class Discussion Guide

* Small Group Discussion Guide/Individual Worksheet

* Vocabulary Cards

* Standards Alignment to Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core Standards

There are also resources for the teacher including:

* Time Codes/Answer Sheets

* Background Information

* FAQ

This is the only video at this point, but they do state that they plan on having more available, with a goal of having "dozens of animated science mysteries" within a few years.

This is inquiry based science where students are asked to use problem-solving techniques. Check out the first video and hope that more show up soon.

Jan MacWatters's curator insight, August 10, 10:47 PM

Great site... fun and educational.  Worth a look if you teach science to these grades..

HJJP's curator insight, August 20, 11:16 PM

Single source education has never been very effective, I still remember those days of pure memorization. I was fortunate enough to have relatives that always asked me about what I learned... and they were not interested in me reciting the facts, they were interested in me telling them what I thought, how it impacted my life or those of others.... When I answered them, and they were happy with my answers, I actually got to understand what I had memorized, and certainly got to master the information in a more meaningful way.... It did not always help with getting excellent grades in exams, but I still accurately remember concepts I learned in 3rd grade.... I feel blended learning is the only way of teaching.... this will allow students to understand and implement complex concepts, catapulting them into much high learning than what we experienced 50 years ago.... or 40... or 30... even 20 or in many classrooms, a couple of days ago....

Hope to see many teachers utilizing these sort of blended learning... Current technology makes it so much easier...
