tablets in workplace learning
The tablet form-factor (e.g. iPads, or other tablets and tabletPC) has a variety of affordances. Within the workplace learning / work-integrated learning / work placement context (in higher education), these affordances are still under explored. The resources curated on this Scoop.it! page are primarily a resource for students going on a work placement within their undergraduate degree. If you are a student or educator involved in workplace learning, please suggest content to be shared. Thanks.

Dropbox for Dummies: Why You Shouldn't Need Your USB Key Again

Dropbox for Dummies: Why You Shouldn't Need Your USB Key Again | tablets in workplace learning | Scoop.it

"Dropbox is my number one productivity tool that I use every single day, both for teaching and personal purposes. If you are still toting around USB thumb-drives and moving files from your home and work computers that way, keep on reading. If not, feel free to check out some of my more advanced Dropbox articles listed below.

For the completely uninitiated, Dropbox is a cloud storage solution that is free for the everyday user. Dropbox will give you (a rather paltry) 2GB of space when you first sign up. You can increase your free space to up to 19GB by doing certain tasks (referrals will net you an extra 500MB each). If you find that you need extra space, you can opt to purchase additional storage of up to 500GB total."

As a writer Dropbox has been wonderful for me keeping (duplicate) updated versions of my WIPs so I don't have to fear corrupt files or crashes and losing hours of work.
Kathy Lynch's curator insight, September 1, 2013 10:57 AM

Thanks for sharing, John. I teach in a different classroom every period and Dropbox has saved me from myself. I have left behind innumerable flash drives during my travels and Dropbox has eliminated the need to carry anything physical. This has been a big time and sanity saver.

The rise and rise of touchscreens in the workplace

The rise and rise of touchscreens in the workplace | tablets in workplace learning | Scoop.it
Eighty-four per cent of smartphones and 69 per cent of tablets used for business
Andreas Kuswara's insight:

It seems that the data in this article hinting that smartphone penetrated professional market early with majority of their respondents own smart phone, and also have much higher percentage corporate-supplied smartphones; while tablet is still lagging behind, although we dont know their rate of growth.

With that in mind, smartphones, either self-supplied or company-supplied (I wander if there is any difference on their behavior of use), tend to be used more for work, than tablets. curious where they get their sample from.

I think the digital work environment will eventually become more open, either by-design (by IT leaders in the company) or by force (by the staff).

Two Lists of Educational iPad Apps for Teachers and Students

Two Lists of Educational iPad Apps for Teachers and Students | tablets in workplace learning | Scoop.it

"In their attempts to establish a 1:1 program for the year 6 class, St Oliver Plunket has recently held a series of workshops in order to develop their students skills before they were officially given management of their very own devices.

The workshops were particularly centered around teaching students about some tips and tricks for managing their iPad, email etiquette, successful searching and copyright and creative commons. I personally was thrilled by the efforts these people from St Oliver are putting into making their 1:1 program a success and I hope other schools would do the same."
