Sundance Style 2013: "What's He Building In There?", by Klip Collective (02:20)

Posted by James Careless on March 20, 2013 •

"The setting: A warehouse, formerly part of a lumberyard, L-shaped and clad in old metal sheeting. You are standing in the yard looking toward the building.

The time: Night. The building exterior is illuminated, tempting you to peer inside. And suddenly you can: The façade eventually falls away, revealing an intent little man laboring in an antiquated control room on the building’s right side. To his left, a conveyor belt whirrs along, transporting hay bale-sized chunks of meat to a dark, gaping pit."

Nikon V1 – shooting 4K 60fps raw for $200. By Andrew Reid (01:28)

Nikon V1 – shooting 4K 60fps raw for $200. By Andrew Reid (01:28) | T.Ves.TV | Scoop.it

(...) "There’s a dark horse in our midst which very few know about, a camera which can shoot 4K raw at 60fps for $200.

A few days ago I got a message from EOSHD forum user Javier Sobremazas.

He was exploring the Nikon V1 burst mode and showed me a very promising ‘proof of concept’ video which was password protected at the time.

That video (...) was shot at 4k (3,872 x 2,592) and edited at 2.4K.

The burst mode on the Nikon V1 shoots not with a mechanical shutter, but with a fully electronic one which shifts the entire 4K sensor output to the buffer at up to 60fps.

No other camera on the market can do this, it is unique to the Nikon 1 series due to some very clever sensor technology by Aptina. Sony recently surrendered their ENTIRE image sensor patent portfolio for free to Aptina to access their CMOS technology.

So what did Nikon do with the cutting edge 1 inch Aptina sensor?"

First Cut Pro is a "handy, dandy online review and approval system". By Scott Simmons (01:36)

Posted by Scott Simmons on March 22, 2013 •

"The review, commenting and approval process is certainly an important one when it comes to getting a client to sign off on an edit and get the job out the door. How exactly you go about this task so that it is painless for both editor and client can be a very big question. If time and proximity permits having a client sit in on the session that is a great way to go. If you’re separated by distance you might choose something like First Cut Pro.

First Cut Pro isn’t the first online review site out there on the ‘net and I can guarantee you it won’t be the last. I haven’t used any of the others in a long time so this isn’t a comparison to any others, just a look at First Cut Pro. Yes, that name is very similar to another “F” Cut Pro so that may or may not help out in the long run. First Cut Pro is an offshoot of a more consumer oriented service called RollyPolly that is designed to be an interactive commenting system for web video (as well as analytics). It seems like a good platform upon which to build a more professional review and approval system for the film and video world."
