Teen sleep cycles may not match family and school schedules. Help them synchronize.

S = Suggestions for improving sleep

C = Causes of tiredness

A = Amount of sleep needed


C= staying up late

C=it has a physical cause

C=Internal clock changes during puberty

A=9 hours or more of sleep

S=Adjust lighting by dimming the lights a bed time and exposeing bright lights in the  morning

S=Stick to a schedule try to make sure they go to sleep and wake up at the same time EVERYDAY for a effect change in sleep

S=take away any long naps and only allow 30 minute naps  after school 

S=Before bed do not allow students to do any vigorous things like exercise loud music video games televission computer use and text messaging 

S=take or turn off electronic devices when it is time to go to sleep

C=medication side effects can cause loss in sleep

C=narcolepsy can cause random moments of tiredness

C=teens are cronically sleep derpirved 

S= have teens wake themselves up

S= only stay up a extra hour or two on the weekend and then go to bed and wake up no later than 10am

S=Get a light therapy box that simulates sunlight

S=tell a teen they will not get a late note or a ride if they dont make it on time
